I sold my collection of RD motorcycles so you guessed it, there is room in the garage, basement, living room & bedroom - it was a large collection - I kept a broken head, piston & cylinder as keepsakes. Anyway there is also project $ in the bank which I need to do something with before my wife wants to buy or do something. The main reason for selling was to buy a car I always wanted - a 911. Looking back on my car adventures, it looks like everything I have done so far has prepared me to finally make this step. I didn't expect to be considering to put a Subaru motor in one though.
My son has found a 76 911S that had the engine removed 10 years ago & has been in a garage since. The 2.7 had the typical over heat, head stud pull out issue. The engine is included in the sale & is supposedly a solid, rust free body in great shape as well as the interior, glass, everything. He is looking at it tomorrow. It also supposedly has lots of extra parts with it. I can get it for a lot less than what I sold the bikes for. I've priced "most" everything else out, but I know that will probably double like all of the other past projects. I figure I can sell the 2.7 & all the extra parts. Then buy the EJ20T, the Kennedy adapter, buy an OutFront dune buggie turbo exhaust (if anyone knows if the rear deck lid will clear the turbo please let me know), the exhaust, short oil pan, cooling system (using a front mounted, under bumper intercooler- if anyone has an RS bumper cover please also let me know) with an expansion tank/fill cap under the front hood, coolant lines, build the engine support, air/water intercooler etc, for not much more than what I made on the sale. I've owned & rebuilt lots of turbo cars also - Supra, XR4Ti, Mercedes 300 diesel, Civics, Turbo Suburban, Forester, BMW's & I think I'm ready for a 911. Am I missing anything as to why not do this?

If I were to do one, I'd use the H6. A guy on the Pelican Parts forum built one a few years ago and it made such a nice car that even sounded like a proper Porsche it's simply too enticing. But I've also never been a fan of turbo cars all that much.

Make no mistake, it's a big project, and would take someone like me a few years to complete which is why I haven't persued it...yet. That may make a nice near-retirement project for me.

I love turbos, having better cruising milage but power on demand & the 2.0 is lighter. Everything mostly is off the shelf & adapting & that Subaru dune buggie exhaust "looks" like it would fit under the bonnet. I'll email them & see if anyone has used it for that. It's meant to put the turbo up at the back of the motor like a sand rail. I also wonder if anyone has used an intercooler as a radiator - or if the passages are too small for good coolant flow. I could use 2 narrow street bike radiators also.
