If you haven't made a choice yet, the 2nd twins (GR/BRZ) oiling/RTV issues are DRAMATICALLY overblown.

I enjoy my '23 BRZ more than any other 4 wheeled vehicle I've had. It looks good, handles great, you can rev out a few gears without being in "straight to jail" territory. And the new engine is underated. They are only rated at 25-28 more HP than the previous version but dynoing at close to 50whp more than the previous version with a lot more midrange than the first gens as well.

Is this even a question? 6-speed manual, all-day comfortable, eco-mode keeps it quiet and pretty economical,  big back seat, large trunk, smooth ride. At the push of a button, it hunkers down, gets loud, and outruns everything in its class, and most cars in the next class up. And it's $32K new.

Very much still a question, yes.

Unfortunately I have a blanket ban on Hyundais.  Which is a shame because I like the suggestion, and I really like some of the new N cars, as well as the Ioniq5.  And the OEM rocks in their support of IMSA.  Combination of: 1. I had a very negative dealer experience (sales treated me like a subprime buyer as I walked in the door, wanted a credit report and financing in place just to test drive a car), 2. My BIL had issues with his, and service dept treated him similar to me.  Like the OEM, dislike the US dealer network.   The difference between a BMW or Lexus dealer is staggering, and the difference between a Honda or Toyota dealer is still noticeable.

"Seats 4 adults comfortably " is a big stretch

Most of the cars on your list won't fit 4 adults comfortably.  So are you looking for a car that you can stuff 2 adults into the back for maybe 15 minutes, while you ignore them complaining bitterly, or are you looking for a car that'll actually carry 4 adults?

I would say the civic si, gti, mazdaspeed, etc. all fit my definition of 4 adults comfortably.  As did the e46.  The gr86 doesn't, nor does the mustang.

Maybe we have different definitions of comfortably. :)

Current gen Civics have a pretty dang large back seat.  Same with Elantras.  They are both large cars.

This could just as easily go in the minor rant thread, but man I hate dealerships.  Their nominal purpose, according to them, is to protect the consumers from the big bad OEMs.  That sure seems to break down under the least bit of scrutiny.

Case 1 - I was ready to buy a brand new Civic Si, already test drove (my friend owns one), financing in place at 6.3% from penfed that they were welcome to beat, and I was willing to pay MSRP ($31,045, incl destination, sticker below).  Should be the easiest deal in the world.  Nope...$3000 "market adjustment" that wasn't on the website or mentioned when I made the appointment.  "Maybe we can do something", waste 20 min while they talk to the manager..."Nope, this is an in-demand car, we think the adjustment is fair".  Cool, I'm out of here, thanks for wasting my time.

Case 2 - GR86, local dealer had managed to add $7000 worth of options onto a car ($1700 exhaust, crappy wheels, etc.), taking the price to over $40K.  "No thanks, I have no interest in any of that, can you please order me a blue, stock, car?".  Nope, 1. they're on allocation, so they get what they get from Toyota, not their fault, I understand, but it still sucks, leading to....2. Any allocations they get will get the same crappy upgrades to juice the MSRP.

Dealerships add nothing to the transaction, and if I could spec and order a car straight through the OEM for MSRP and have it delivered, I would be a very happy person.  This is why I buy used cars private party, for folks claiming to be in the service business, dealerships sure do a E36 M3ty job of it.

Going to look at a used 2018 Golf R this afternoon with 40K miles.  The new car buying experience is terrible.
