Being an reasonable seller helps,too.
When I sold the P71, I texted everyone back who texted me with reasonable, legitimate offers that the car had sold and thanked them for the interest.
Many were suprised I would even do that.
This happened to me for the first time two weeks ago and I was shocked.
There was a listing locally for a set of Fittipaldi wheels for $150, it was a well written ad and the images in it were very good. I emailed him right away and said I could be at his place with cash at 4pm that day.
He emailed back within the hour
and said he had one person in line in front of me, he would let me know. I figured that was the end of that.
He emailed back at 3pm
and said he was sorry, the first guy bought the wheels
.
You know, really it's kind of sad that a little common decency is such a surprising thing these days.

I've been looking at winter wheels for the WRX on CL, and two different people this week I've said I'm weighing options between you and another, and that I'd let you know by the end of the week. WHETHER IT WAS YES OR NO. Both were very appreciative of that.
I try to be the buyer I'd like to see on my ads.
I have a guy who is driving 1.5 hours to come check out my w123. He is well so spoken and pretty cool to talk to. He even admitted he doesnt have the money for my asking price yet but still wanted to make the trip out to look at the car. He didn't ask me to hold it or if I would take any less. "I would like to come look at it soon if that's possible for you. I admit, I do not have the cash yet. But, if its not wasting your time I'd love to drive there and check it out. Let me know when."
He told me his plans for the car and showed me pics of his lifted rallycar w123. Pretty cool guy. I'm willing to work on the price with him and even hold it if he's serious. I mean who else drives 75 miles in L.A. to look at a best w123 with no money?

Sometimes that's a good thing though. They thought it was "just a mustang", and then you walked away with their "1500$" v8 mustang worth way more.
Yeah but im not driving 2-4hrs for an engine donor without knowing what engine it is.

Morning after update: he test drove it (actually I drove with him passenger since he's still earning manual) and loved it. I had a stack of receipts for repairs and maintenance for the last 3 years to show him it's been loved. He was tempted but told himself he wanted to think overnight, I said no problem. Today he texted he was comfy with $3k and an "inspection" first. I told him inspection ok, but pretty stuck at $3500. (I might go $3300 being close but not $3k)
Overnight someone else texted about seeing it. Turns out to be the boyfriend of a friend that has a newer WRX but apparently having $$ issues and will be losing it. She knows my car, and had an RS herself before her new car. They're coming to see it this afternoon, and really think they'll take the $3500. If I'm giving anyone a break, it's a friend having $ issues and loves Subarus, over random craigslist guy. Stay tuned.......

During the test drive his wife said, "you're never going to shut up about this car if you don't but it." To which he replied, "I'm in". They left me a deposit and we did a contract that stated when he'll return with the full amount. I knew the car was sold the minute he hit full boost in first gear. He was giggling like no 38 year old man should.
Sounds like you sold someone their dream car.![](/media/img/icons/smilies/grin-18.png)

Second person(s) never showed, asked them Sunday afternoon and got lots of excuses. I texted the original guy and said if you're still interested in the $3300 I countered with, it's yours. I just got home with two envelopes of money. The kid is super-excited about the car and that makes me very happy. I was hoping it went to someone that would use it like it should be, versus cheap transportation that's good in the snow.
I'm sure I'll see it at local events. And probably sigh a little bit.
