Do we have any other Ecodiesel people on here? Interested in hearing other experiences with them.

I just picked up a new 17 quad cab for super cheap. Literally cheaper than the regular cab work truck Chevy with a 5.3 I was checking out.

Im averaging 27 mpg highway so far with it and compared to the 32 year old land cruiser I’ve been dailying, it feels super fancy.

Of course 140 miles in to it I had to remove the turbo silencer in the intake to get a tad more noise.

I know some of the older ones had some issues which I plan to tune for and “fix” eventually but for now I’m enjoying having a fuel efficient (well double the mpg of my fj60) actual pickup with a bed I can hose out.

I considered it for our Grand Cherokee, but went for the 3.6. But I am interested in real world usage.

So yours haven't had the "fix" yet?

I read the fix drops mpg and  power. I'd love an eco-diesel GC for my wife.

What are the known issues with the older models you know of?  I like the idea of these trucks but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I am concerned about the reliability with the engine failure/slipping timing stuff

https://carbuzz.com/news/why-new-ecodiesel-owners-need-to-beware-of-engine-failure

Otherwise I would really like one, and I think greendieselengineering has a tune for it that makes it get even better mileage

how much did you end up paying? I really want to love them but this stuff scares me

from another thread..

This was 27k out the door. 11k less than the diesel canyons and Colorado’s around here.

From everything I’ve seen, VM motori has updated the cam gear issue and has switched to rotella t6 5w40 instead of the 30 wt they came out with early in the run. Some folks had oil temp issues with the factory cooler but I doubt I will run in to that with my climate and lighter duty. Seeing the failure list on a forum with first year models doesn’t surprise me or worry me much either.

The egr and dpf issues of all modern diesels have to be dealt with the same way with tunes and deletes and I’ll see about that if the time comes. I’m going in to this knowing about the potential short comings and risks and just keeping an open mind. My least favorite thing about it is that it’s a damn Dodge but besides knowing the FCA reputation well, it was priced well enough for me to roll the dice on it.

Mine hasn’t had the fix and won’t. They asked me if I wanted any updates flashes , told me what it would do and let me decline. Eventually I would get a GDE or maybe a Banks Derringer unit IF this turns out to be a decent reliable truck.

There was a stop sale order on these for quite a while as the EPA investigated their programming for emissions defeating devices. They were cleared and this one was still sitting on the lot so I picked it up for a decent deal. 4x4, heated mirrors, truck with no chrome checked all my boxes.

2014 Jeep GC ecodiesel owner here.  Three years and 80k miles.  I bought mine used and it is now under factory 100k warranty.  It's been far less than reliable vehicle and has stranded me numerous times for multiple days at a time.  I am done with FCA vehicles for the rest of my days based on this vehicles performance and FCA's inability to fix it even with my proximity to Chrysler HQ-the dealer I use is within 10 miles of Auburn Hills.  I hope your experience is better than mine has been.

The wife has a 2014 GC. 50K miles and counting. Lots of power, great mileage. We had some electrical problems the first year, but they were taken care of under warranty and its been trouble free since. The only thing I don't like is the throttle isn't linear. You step on the gas and wait and wait and then bam, you are off like a rocket.
