Feeling a bit dissatisfied at current employer after eight years. Browsing around, I see a few permanent hire jobs via RHT. Has anyone here dealt with them as a head hunter?

I don't have much to add other than SWMBO went through RH for a previous job. Had success getting the job but dismal support from RH when things started going south. RH went so far as to say that if she left that employer they would not help her in the future. That is understandable for a predetermined amount of time at an employer, usually six months or a year. RH told her that there wasn't a time limit and was told that if she EVER left that employer RH would not help her again. I still think we received some bad info from the idiot on the other end of the phone but it is something to consider if that is in fact their policy.

Avoid RH they just don't have a good reputation. For me it is direct hire or nothing.

Headhunters are bad. This is an opinion.

I disagree. Some of them are definitely predatory, but it's ultimately up to the candidate to decide whether or not an opportunity is right for them. Headhunters can be great at getting your resume exposure in places you might not have otherwise been able to. I've had really good luck with them but I also make sure they understand exactly what kind of candidate I am and where I want to be. The good ones will happily oblige and set you up with really great interviews. YMMV.

Specific to OP though, I have not heard great things about Robert Half personally either. Glassdoor is a great resource to see what kind of experiences others have had.

I've never had much luck getting placed by RHT. I'd be looking at a local smaller boutique IT consulting firm, if one of those exists by you. The last time I got placed by a staffing firm it was by this one: http://www.udig.com - they may not be able to help you directly as they operate mostly here in Virginia, but that's the kind of staffing firm you are looking for.

Just realized this is in the wrong forum if the mods could move it please.

Thanks for the input so far.

I was placed by them many years ago, they were not bad but not the best either. If it is a contract to hire you should be OK.

Nothing wrong with RHT, but they are a big name in the game. As others have said, there may be a more specific recruiter to your niche and/or desired employer/job. My company deals with about 2500 recruiting firms in various niches. We offer applicant tracking software and have split placement network. The latter is basically a club where some members have jobs to fill and others have a candidate pool. They match and split the fees, which are several thousand dollars to tens of thousands of dollars and is usually a percentage of the salary.

The good about a recruiter is they will try to get you the most money because it means more money for them. Its also a way to get into a job without knowing someone at the company (how a large percentage of jobs are placed).

If I wanted a new job tomorrow, I'd go through a recruiter. Plug for our recruiters: http://www.recommendedrecruiter.com/

The recruiter will fill the positions they have which are not always the best match for you. Don't feel bad if they get annoyed if you turn down bad gigs. Look out for yourself.
