I'm looking for a budget friendly entry to DE and was wondering if anyone has experience with T1 at Carolina Motorsports Park?  I've done a few TNIA's at CMP and VIR (along with autocross off and on for a few years) but would like to start improving my skills with instruction.  No specific goals, just improving and maybe time trials at some point.  T1 is $375/day and everyone else I've found is at least $500, so it seems like a good place to start.  The budget part will continue for at least 3 more years as the kids (hopefully) wrap up college.

Alternate suggestions welcomed with CMP, VIR, and Dominion as the most accessible tracks for me.

Thanks.

I've done a good handful of days with Chin at VIR and have no real complaints. With instruction I think they're $400/day, which seems in line with most of the "bigger" track day organizers I've checked into.

I've done Turn 1 at CMP.

It's basically their in-house program.  Very laid back.  I ran w/o instruction, so can't comment on that aspect.

Thanks for the feedback.  I like the laid back atmosphere of CMP in general so I may start there and check out something like Chin later in the year.

I tried to run one last fall, as it's one of the very few HPDE groups that occasionally has an open wheel group. The person who runs it is super friendly via email if you have any questions. I had mechanical problems, so it was a VERY short day for me, but on a positive, it was better to discover the issue there than at a race weekend! A very laid back vibe.

One other thing about CMP, if you plan to do any amount of wrenching on the car, pay for a car port.  It's an open air covered structure with a smooth, level concrete floor.  Everything else at CMP is sandy grass.  Lots of sand.  And with am dew, it gets on/in everything.

I did one right before a Lucky Dog event. Price was fair and lots of track time, but I should probably mention that the staff was super rude to me--I showed up without a tech sheet (apparently missed an email, certainly wasn't obvious, and I had my Lucky Dog tech sheet with me since I didn't realize it was a different organization) and the guy chewed me out and started mocking me before finally just handing me a damn sheet.

It was really, really dispiriting for that to be my first interaction at the event, and now I always make sure to share my experience when people ask. It's so easy to be nice to people who give you money, so choosing to be mean is always interesting.

I was going to say the same thing...  they are quite rude when you ask them questions.  I sent an email stating the tech sheet wasn't attached to the email.  I got a response back that it would be fine and I can pick one up before the track day.  I showed up and got berated for not having a filled out tech sheet...

We got kicked out of a track day at one point as well.

One of my drivers put two wheels off / half spun  They said if you put two wheels off, come in and talk to the instructor.  My driver came in, drove to the paddock and parked the car.  The driver was  telling us what happened as we were walking back towards pit lane.

The lady in charge came ripping over in a golf cart to tell us to load up and go home.  She was adamant that our driver was instructed to come talk to them.  She would not listen to us saying we were on our way to do just that.  She wanted the driver to stop on pit lane (which was not an instruction we got).

So, yea....  they can be rude and act like the world is ending with any sort of request or deviation from what they 100% expect.

I wasn't going to post this, hoping it was just maybe my car and I that experienced this sort of behavior.  I see that is not the case.
