Good buddy may be getting one from his uncle. Silver 318 manual and he doesn't think it has t tops. All original he believes. But he isn't having any luck finding pics online of one, only orange and white ones? Any info to share would be appreciated.
Package on the volare if i remember correctly. Just stickers.

Yeah, I seem to be finding that. Any stuff to be mindful of on the car? Problem areas to watch out for?
If memory serves me, the manual transmission Volares were pretty uncommon, and I think it was a 4 speed overdrive.

Probably rust is the main thing.
Didn't it also have 8" wide rallye wheels?
Well for starters the Roadrunner never came with the 318 so it much be a tarted up base model

Most of the "roadrunner" Volares got a 318, but often a 318 4bbl. I think the E58 360 4bbl was the hottest choice available, but relatively rare.
Rust, rust, and more rust, and malaise-era build quality. Neat cars though.

Yeah, it was the transmission where they made 3rd gear overdrive, and swapped the linkage so that you shifted 1st-2nd-4th(Direct-drive)-3rd(Overdrive). Also used in the old 2wd C10s in the mid-80s
Sorry, I didn't notice it was '77 and in the era of faux RRs
Being unsure of what part of nation you are, as said watch out for undercarriage rust. Being these were uni bodies makes that aspect alone of even more importance.
And if it's got the Thermoquad 4 barrel, even at 150ish or so smog era choked horsepower, with the air cleaner lid flipped upside down, the sound made when when the secondaries opens up is somewhat pleasant to the ears.
Allpar has some notes on the post-'74 Road Runners here:

Pics pics pics! come now, this is the 21st century! (grin)
I actually like terrible 70s Mopars but I keep remembering "Volare, it's french for E36 M3box".
I'll just leave this here:
There's also this: Mopar race car in a box
In reply to SkinnyG:
My sister had an orange 76 Volare Road Runner - looks like Skinny G's pic other than hers had white interior. Factory FM/CB radio! 318 auto trans.
The manual trans models and ttop models I don't recall seeing very many.
The road runner package on the volare: spoiler, air dams, wheels, decals, window louvers, bucket seats, console, etc.
They came with 318's or 360's, mostly 318's.
In addition to the road runner package, Dodge Aspen also had the Super Coupe and Richard Petty Editions. I believe these were 360 police package motors.
I think they were all a cool display of 70's body style.
No T-Top but free blind spots!
I"ve seen orange, white, and black Volare RR's.
They also made a "Duster" Volare
my parents had a 1980 Aspen Stationwagon with the 4 speed on the floor and the 6 cylinder? My father still curses that car. Never was it a better day when tidal flooding came along one spring and swallowed that car in briny goodness
So my buddy is getting the car. And some money is coming with it to fix it up. Sort of inheritance. Are these easily lowerable?
In reply to joey48442 :
Torsion bar front suspension is easy to lower if the adjusters aren't rusted to berkeley. Rear leaf springs are probably already under the axle, so probably needs dearched leafs to lower.
Tell your friend to take the money and run, and flip the Volare. Sorry guys but those things are terrible looking. Makes the Mustang II look like a respectable car.
Here's a swapped 440ci one......for $5k, doesn't seem like a bad option.
That's a pre-Volare Roadrunner. Neat car, though.
I disagree with maschinenbau...they weren't the greatest cars but I always thought the Volare was attractive enough. Looks are subjective.
I used to know a guy who had a Volare wagon with a 318 and a factory four on the floor transmission. I think it was sort of a weird overdrive thing, but I figured it would have been a cool car to swap a more robust drivetrain into.
