I have a lead one a 03 with about 100K on the clock. My wife has wanted one for quite some time so when this once came up I thought I would have her test drive it and hope that she did not like it. Well I was wrong she LOVED IT!!!!! So now I am considering getting it as the Truck is getting long in the tooth and this one looks to be an honest vehicle. I went over it and did not find any significant runs tot speak of. The thing drives nice. Looks to have had a new transmission put in it recently. The only issues I know of are it needs a Air bag sensor, It needs a PS pump as it is leaking a little and the oil pressure sensor is screwed up. Oil pressure in the motor is fine the gauge was at 0 then I hit a bump it went to 80 and stayed there.

From what I can tell this is basically a GM HD truck with a short wheel base.

Other than that the interior is really nice. Comfortable to drive and ride in. Well appointed interior. Looks to be on a par with Cadillac's of the early 2000's

Anything to look at in particular.

And for the record Yes I know about the millage these get. It is a 8K lb vehicle. I get that. My wife drives about 2 miles a day in the winter and in summer she drives about a mile a week or less so gas millage is a non issue for her. The short if it is happy wife happy life and this would make her happy. She has wanted one for 5-6 years now.

Well you already noticed that it's one of the best vehicles for making gas disappear...so I guess you know they're bad on consumables as well.

Well then, the only things I have left to say are that they're tasteless-looking things, and when I see a man driving one, I automatically think of him as a manchild who is really, really small down there.

Edit: Oh and one more thing - they actually don't have much interior room.

I think they are extremely ugly, and they do not give me a favorable impression of whoever might be driving one when I see it. They are actually mostly gone already in my area though. I have seen several that were burned to the point of the wheels turning into puddles stuck to the bottom of the brake rotors in the junkyard, but other than that idk what happened to them all. The tie rods seem very fragile too if all the YouTube videos of people snapping them are to be believed. Beyond that, its just pretty much a suburban/Tahoe chassis with somewhat improved off road capability.

IIRC, they're built on a shortened GMT800 2500 Suburban chassis. Simple, durable and will hold up over time. I'm not going to get into the silly "you're an idiot if you drive one" crap because it's childish.

EDIT: Seriously people? You're going to chastise the man because his wife wants one? Holy crap you people are petty.

I think the H2 is based off the 3/4t suburban, so it's a beefy rig and has a solid drivetrain. If she likes it go for it and don't worry about what anyone else thinks. Usually people that stereotype have their own issues anyway.

I do think they're basically a GM HD truck with a short wheel base. Questions of taste or anatomy are off topic but that doesn't ever seem to stop GRM. I haven't heard anything unusual about them, reliability-wise.

edit: Bobzilla and I agree on something, it's stupid to harp on a person because of the car they drive. Isn't this the same group that loves a gay hairdresser's car? (and yes, I love Miatas too.)

Bingo. If we want to talk about "unfavorable feeling when I see someone driving one".... shouldn't all you Miata lovers be in the local gay pride parade, waving a rainbow flag and wearing Sir Elton John sunglasses? (see how stupid it sounds?)

I don't see anyone in here chastising anyone else so far, your comment not included

Neither of those are chastising anyone in this thread, although I suppose they are chastising a hypothetical H2 driver, so I'm sorry if I hurt his hypothetical feelings

Looks and image aside, I'm not a fan of them because the visibility is terrible. In order to make a Tahoe look like the military H1, they squished and squared off the windows, and raised the bodywork. The result is a vehicle with the size of a Tahoe, but without the inside space, good visibility or fuel efficiency.

That said--- it's a GM truck, so you could do worse. Keeping the wife happy is more important than making the most logical automotive choice.....if it keeps her happy, it IS the most logical choice.

The guy I bought the Elise from has one. We took it to the bank to do the paperwork. It was kinda nice inside. Seen in the background here:

He also had a Ferrari (460 or something, I forget,) and a Maserati.

Interesting that the transmission already grenaded at only 100K. Some things never change. I say go for it. Or hold out and get a H1 if you'd rather.

I don't care about the looks or perceived view of the driver, I've been in a few and found them extremely uncomfortable and hard to see out of. The only thing I've heard about them is the front end is a little weak, balljoints and tie rod ends. It uses fuel like an F14 taking off on afterburners though. If the wife likes it though, hope you enjoy your new H2

What everyone else said. I'd go for the H3 if I had to buy one–the H2 is too big and heavy to be great off-road, at least compared to its contemporaries.

How does she feel about Jeep Wrangler Unlimiteds? They're a way better vehicle that's bigger inside, better off-road, and gets better mileage.

Now that's a good suggestion. If she likes the pseudo-military look, steer her towards the Jeep option.

Oh, if shes open to it, the Jeep JK Wrangler is a much better vehicle than a Hummer in every which way, except for towing.

I'll just throw it out there that if she's looking for a giant vehicle, sit her in a Sequoia (or hell, even a new 4Runner) and see what she thinks. They're about the same size as the H2, and better in virtually every way (IMO).

If it's just the "H2 look" that she wants, then you're probably best off just getting an H2, since nothing else really looks like it at all.

I've driven a number of large SUVs (including an H2 and Wrangler Unlimited) and even though I don't particularly like the H2, I'd take damn near any SUV over a wrangler unlimited. I thought the Unlimited rode and handled crappier than my 1990 Cherokee did, and I hated every moment of driving it. Plus it's huge and pointless, with all the downsides of a Jeep (handling, ride, so-so interior, so-so engine) but with reduced off-road ability compared to a normal-sized jeep. I'd rather have the new Grand Cherokee.

One other one worth thinking about: IF wife wants a "badass" large SUV, try her out in the new Durango R/T. I thought it rode and handled great (felt smaller than it was), had a nice interior, decent sightlines, tons of power, decent fuel ecomony for its size, and actually looks pretty cool.

I found a bunch for 25 in 5 mins. My buddy that is a tech for the military says if youre careful, you can find one for mid teens. Do a duramax swap and a decent paint job and sell it for big money after having a cool rig for a couple years.

You are better than me, but still seems high. The civilian ones, especially the later ones, are crazy priced.

I have some serious lust for a 2dr pickup truck version.
