Well, now that the DIY PNP has been released for my car, i am officially going to squirt the car this coming spring, and probably strap a larger turbo and some firehose injectors to the motor.

Is there anyone within reasonable distance to me that knows Megasquirt well that would be willing to potentially save my butt if i make a huge mess of things? This is a bit outside of my comfort zone, but with the new PNP, finally seems within grasp, so i'm going to do it.

Also anyone on here that would be willing to give a go at tuning the car for beer? (Or just willing, period, we can work out details later.)

I know this may be a bit preemptive but there's an event in May that i'd like to try to use as a shakedown for the setup, so i'm trying to get everything situated and planned to a "T" now.

Which car are you talking about?

Why, the one with your favorite motor, of course!

The MX6. I still have budget to do this and stay under $2010, and the more i think about it, the more i'm really not comfortable letting the stock ECU do it's thing with the modifications done. The fact that i'll pick up some MPG, pick up a buttload of power, and be able to ditch that stupid VAF are all just icing on the cake.

I'm in the midwest (NW AR). Bring it on over if you screw it up. Or just want some help.

That's far... but knowing how much experience you seem to have with this stuff, i may want to work something out with you. That's about a 9 hour drive, though. Definitely a possibility if i can get away for a few days. Would you be comfy getting a decent tune on this thing?

I'm near you, but have zero experience with MS. I would however like to be a fly on the wall since there are PNP options for both my cars and I'm thinking of switching down the road. There are some knowlegable guys on 502 streetscene iirc. You might try posting on there.

Yeah, if i can't find anyone to tune it for beer, i'll be hitting up a few people down there. I'm on that site as well.

But yeah, i'll detail everything i do, probably over on MX6.com, but i'll let you know when i start, and we can definitely get the fly on the wall thing done.

Well, I don't claim to be an expert on it, but I have 3 MS'ed vehicles, including the world's only MS'ed Sportster, and maybe the only MS'ed HD. I tuned them all with a narrow band. I just about got a decent tune again on the 20v after switching from speed density to alpha-n. So, that's one more tune under my belt. It's a lot easier with 2 people. You don't have to drive, look at the computer and change the maps all at once.

So, I'm willing to give it a try. Heineken.

That... won't exactly fit within the $2010 budget.

Heineken works, one of my favorites, too. This site rocks!

It'll have a wideband, an annoying EBC, and the VAF will no longer be present.

I think what i would do if this goes down is assemble the unit, then drive out to you on stock ECU, and then go to town from there.

I'm in Evansville, but by no means am I any sort of expert. I've built one MS car, and it works pretty well. A friend of mine is quite the MS wizard, but he lives about an hour away and I can't exactly volunteer his services, but I'll help any way I can.

I appreciate that. I'm less worried about setting it all up as i am getting the thing tuned. Now that the DIY PNP is out, it all looks pretty simple. I'm decent with a soldering iron from my computer overclocking/motherboard modding days, so assembling it SHOULDN'T be an issue.

I figure another 120 hour paycheck or two and i should be ready to go.

PnP just takes one part out of the equation, and honestly wiring isn't that hard.

Beaterworld

First of all welcome!

Second - Megasquirt is a Do it Yourself Fuel Injection System controller. Big following on this board, and reviewed several different times in the magazine.

Google is your friend, and if you ever wanted to put fuel injection on something automotive (or at least an engine that burns fuel of some kind), Megasquirt can be a great friend.

It may not be hard, but i have this irrational fear of it, especially when relating to my DD.

And with the PNP, if something DOES go wrong, it's as simple as plugging the old ECU back in, which is capable of running the car in a passable, but not ideal manner.

Yeah, well, unless that "something goes wrong" thingie is blowing a chunk of piston out the exhaust port. Then swapping the old ECU back in isn't going to work out too well.

Yeah.... maybe i'll just bring a spare block with me.

That shouldn't be a problem, these motors are bulletproof, and i'd just as soon leave the timing map mostly stock, and tune on the rich side.
