Hi everyone, I'm starting to get more serious about motorsports. But I'm still a newbie and I hope I could join in a club to share the same interest with other members. Any suggestion?
By the way, I live in Galveston, Texas. Hope someone also live here so we can go out for coffee and discuss more about this topic.
Thank you

First off, welcome!
Second off, I know nothing about Texas but someone here will.
Third off, autocross is a great place to get your feet wet in motorsports. You are driving for speed around a course marked with safety cones, usually in a big parking lot. Although the driving and competition are intense, speeds are typically lower than on a track day - but it sure doesn't feel like it. Wear and tear on your car is also typically lower.
I'm not saying it's the best way, but I jumped straight into W2W. Started a Lemons team, built a car, hooked on racing ever since.

There are loads of different forms of.motorsport and they're all fun.
I looked for things in your area:
You are 28 minutes from Grandsport Speedway and an hour from MSR Houston. So you have plenty of access to venues
It appears there are autocross events at Grandsport; autocross is a good entry level event. You can bring your street car whether it's bone stock Sentra or a fully modified Ferrari.
There also appears to be track day events at Grandsport; Hooked on Driving appears to run several events there. Track days allow you to bring your street car. All you need is a Helmet.
As for a club the Houston region of the SCCA would be a good start. You also have NASA Texas.
As for wheel to wheel racing it appears most of.those events are at MSR Houston in Angleton Texas.
Tell us a little more about what you want to do; simply get out and have fun or more serious racing.

I think what he actually wanted to do was paddle his canoe.
In reply to Duke :
I got that vibe too. But my canoe antenna is pretty darned rusty.
What if we're so canoe happy that we turn away some legit newbies? OP tell us what kind of motorsports you want to get into.
Looks like the canoe tipped over and went out to sea.
I think the canoe test is something akin to "Hey, do you like canoes?" If they come back with "Wait, wut?" They are probably real. If they plod on with the original wmquestion they're probably phony.
Like how cops test your reaction to the question, "Do you have any dead bodies in the trunk?"

Margie did some behind the scenes research and decided to torpedo his small watercraft.

Tell me about the trailer please....

Now THAT is a question from a real person. The question we'd expect from anyone on the board.
I've always loved wheel to wheel racing. To me it's different from Autocross or most other games.
Autocross is like golf. It's you against yourself. Trying to go faster than the last time. But you are the standard. In Golf you try to improve your game. You are who you really compete against.
Wheel to wheel you compete against others. The goal is to finish ahead of others. More like Chess. Even if you both start out even the person who best uses the track, your strengths, your skills, winds up finishing ahead of others.
I've seen skilled drivers in slower cars beat faster cars.
When you do that you really feel good. Anybody in a fast car can step on the loud pedal and pass others. To trade position for speed and pull off a win? That's a driver.
If you're on a limited budget you should probably consider a vintage race car. Three real reasons.
Unlike a new race car they aren't the endless money pit of speed costs money, how fast do you want to go.
13/13 rule No Contact. Spin or 4 wheels off and you will be black flagged to ask why you aren't driving in control. You can go as fast as you want. But you have to retain control. Some of the cars racing are worth 10's of millions of dollars and others are just cared for deeply by their owners. The result is with one trivial misstep on my part I raced for over 4 decades without an accident ( that's typical of most racers)
Budget. It's affordable to buy an inexpensive car and turn it into a tribute car of something you deeply admire. I've seen cars painted the livery of a famous car and no performance mods. Down to the exact tool room copy of a famous race car. But that's not a requirement. As long as any modification is of the era, it's allowed.

This. While the OP may not have been "real", here is hoping that maybe this thread helps someone else.
