so ive found a 62 MG for a decent price that needs some work but in OK shape. the only problem is he doesnt have the title. All he knows is that the man he bought it from in Ohio didnt give him (may not of even had) the title for it.

I know the first step would be have an officer come out and run the VIN to make sure its not stolen. What would be the next step in the process? is it a simple enough process or is it not worth my time? I like the car alot but if its going to be a big long strenuous ordeal i wouldnt be tore up about moving on.

I bet you can run the vin yourself first for like $2 if you call the DMV. Lot less hassle than having the officer come find it stolen. Other than that I have little idea.

SEMA has compiled titling requirements for all 50 states here: http://www.semasan.com/page.asp?content=tag_title_toolbox&g=SEMAGA Assuming the car isn't stolen, chances are you'll have to get a bonded title.

Dont think you need a title for a car that old in Indiana. Should be able to plate it with bill of sale.

If the current owner tells DMV he lost the title they will give him a duplicate. A dealer in a non title state (for early cars) like CT can handle paperwork for you if he is so inclined.

yea the problem is the current owner isnt the titled owner, he got it from Ohio without a title, just has a bill of sale from him, and i dont think current owner has contact with him so getting that is pretty much impossible at this point.

I do a police check before I buy any car without a title. Then I have a contact that for around 150$ gets me all the paperwork for a title. I am in Indiana and have done this for at least 5 cars.

It's not a rolling age, i think the cutoff is 1976 or something.

I have not done too many older cars but the last one was 04 sentra with a lean on it. Ended up with a clear title.
