Asking too much? My auto add is in high gear over THIS.
So if your serious, I can go pick this up and store it for you, I live about an hour away. Just pay for the diesel and a keg of Sam Adams Oktoberfest and we're golden.

Okay so I called the dude, he still has it. Says it has like 2 file boxes worth of paperwork with it form 20 years of racing. He has it at his booth at the flea market. I'll call him Friday night and head out Saturday morning to pick it up if your super serious about it.
Was actually able to get him on the phone. Sounds like he doesn't know a ton about the car (bought it for the trailer it was on) but it has tons of literature with it as well as multiple log books, etc. It had all it's fluids drained for shipping at one point (by PO) but that deal fell through. It now has oil and gas in it but no tranny fluid so be aware of that. I am game if you are and can paypal you the money (preferable) so you can take with you for the pickup. I sent you a PM and we can discuss more details there.
If there are obvious things wrong with the car (i.e. rust in structurally significant areas) we can walk as agreed with by the seller but overall it looks really interesting and a great candidate for a rallycross car.
Cool. I'm ~20 miles from there, and a white 84 GTI was my first car and introduction to autocrossing.
However our driveway is full and I have a newborn son, so can't help with your affliction.
That car was born to 3-wheel around corners!
