I see on Racing Junk.com that F5000 will be featured at this year's event, which would interest me if it's true.  Any recommendations on attending the event?  I'm told access to Laguna Seca isn't great and I'm guessing that lodging is expensive.

Haven't ever been to the track that weekend, but I've been to the track. I've also been at one of the Classic Motorsports Reunion Kickoff events, which is basically a car show on the main drag. The latter was a nice laid back feel, just like any car show on the main drag of a small town and the cars were all attainable. Definitely a neat event since you've peeled off the multimillionaires and their VIP access. Go into Monterey and you'll discover the high dollar stuff that you can view through a high fence.

I expect that lodging is quite a bit less if you get away from the coast. Laguna Seca is about as far from Salinas as it is from Monterey, but one is a farming town while the other is a coastal big money spot. Just did a hotels.com check for the Reunion timeframe and found a Motel 6 for $122/night. Sure it's not a beachside resort, but you're not there for the lodging experience are you? The Monterey Tides where I stayed a few times with the Miata Laguna Seca event is $2700/night for that same week. Sure is nice to look out on the ocean from your room but ouch.

I live in the area and attend many events at Laguna including the Reunion.  Yes, lodging close to the track is very expensive but if you are willing to stay 1hr north in Santa Cruz or neighboring towns, you'll save some $.

Access to the track is not a big deal but traffic can be a bitch sometimes. There are only 2 main highways into and out of Monterey and it can take a while to get home after an event. As an example, I live about 60 miles away, and it takes me about an hour and a half from my driveway to a parking lot on the track property. Returning home can be a 2-3 hour drive if the event is well attended.

Look for a hotel as far north as Scotts Valley or Santa Cruz.

In reply to myf16n :

Sounds like an excellent reason to bring/borrow an e-bike and park in Salinas :)

Its  not that far to Salinas , which is on Hwy 101 ,

There is a whole week of Events , starting with the Pre-Historics the week before ,

They are repaving the track now and upgrading the bridges etc , no idea how the rains slowed that down.
