Hi all. Wondered if anyone here had done it and if there was anything particularly difficult to it. I'm thinking I need transmission, new clutch,5sp ecu, pedals and lines. How to make the speedo work in this application? What else am I missing? Thanks.
I've never driven one of the CVT ones. I've owned 2 5spd and still have 1 that's been on the back burner for a couple years already. What's motivating you to want to swap it?
Don't take that the wrong way as i've done 5 auto to manual swaps and never regretted a second of it. Just curious.
Yes, Georgia Tech Wreck Racing did. However, we did it by putting a Subaru engine and gearbox in the trunk, so we sort of cheated.
I've always loved them and found one cheap, but owner says auto trans is grinding badly. Tracked down a 5spd trans, but it doesn't come with anything else. Figured I'd get it anyway and keep gathering parts. Want to get everything and then see if i can do it over a wknd.
Might need ecu, too, as they're often different
Probibly worth looking for a crunched doner car. That way you have everything. Hell at that point it may be easier to swap the motor with the trans and harnes and ecu.
Thanks guys. Yeah, figured I'd need an ECU. Insights, crunched or otherwise, don't come up often, and living at the bottom of Florida makes it a real haul to go get anything worthwhile. Is Copart the best source for crunched stuff?

Guy here has a K24 Insight that has knocked down over 50mpg, not bad for something that runs 12s. Actually that's freaking awesome.
Came here to say k20t, I bet drivin properly it'd yield great economy.
The thing about the K-swapped Insight is that i keep coming back to ending up with 10 grand in it. I guess the upside is that there's not really something you could just buy for 10 grand that's equivalent. Unless you buy a k-swapped CRX. Then yeah, basically the same.
