16VCorey's team has a ringer driver?! I'm kidding. You guys are going to have a blast.

Btw - Jim and Dwight are nice guys. You'll meet them when you sign in most likely.

I'm shooting to get to the track around 1-2p. I'll look for the red Escort and come on by.

Excellent!

Yesterday one of our drivers had a death in the family, and had to cancel the trip at the last minute. This morning Chris saw Bill online on facebook and half jokingly asked if he'd want to drive, and as long as he can find a flight in time, as far as we know he's accepting the offer!

By the way, we drove the car for the first time since the engine swap about an hour ago.

AHHHAAAAA! I follow his Facebook. He mentioned a spot driving in a Turbo Escort in Rockingham this coming weekend. I knew it had to be somebody here.

It looks like it is going to be a pretty nice weekend. I mentioned going fishing and my son nearly burst into tears. I had to promise him we won't miss the race; he didn't understand it is two days long. Now he's happy he gets to go see the race and go fishing!

I have two friends that are going down to drive the Banks SAAB. They just finished ice racing last Sat.

All you folks should come by and say "Hi". I look like this:

Or not. Screw it. Just look for the Sanfurd and Son Truck. I'll be in the same pit.

Glad I got out there. My son loved it, and I had a pretty good time, too. We stopped by every pit we could and chatted with whoever wanted to talk. I learned a bit about the costs associated with running in one of these races.

Good to meet those of you that I did.

Two ice racers in an old SAAB take first on Sat. then third after starting six laps down on Sun.

That Saab was f'in fast. I can't believe you guys won in an aborted fighter jet.

Hats off to 16VCorey. His home brew turbo Escort had a fuel pump fire. The crew repaired it and came back out for an hour and a half. Where is he to comment?

The fates of my team's cars:

Enterprise - got hungry and ate the electrode from a spark plug. Engines with random metal in the cylinder bores don't last long. R.I.P. I was told she will be repaired...er....refitted.

Sanfurd and Son Race Truck - Developed trans, or rear gear, trouble late in the day on Sunday. Post-mortem pending.

Super Duper Supra - It ate up a set of brakes that usually last every other car we own for 3-4 races. I'm not sure what caused this but it was the fastest car we had all weekend. Maybe too many stops down the back stretch to enter the infield.

Glad you could make it out Brett_Murphy! Doubly glad you guys had fun!

I was watching the Supra, and on the second to last turn before the straight going into the pits, there was a lot of 4 wheel drifting happening. The green Jetta was on 3 wheels every time they went through that turn, too.

I mentioned to the guys running the Green Woody wagon that they were spewing fuel... after they had run out of fuel and red flagged the race.

I had no idea the Sanfurd and Son truck was street legal. The plate on the back makes that racer +5 awesome.

The best part about talking to people? They'd ask me if what car I was running, and when I said I was just there to watch with my son, they'd go on to tell me how badly they were cheating.

Side note: Everyone that I talked to except the Mercedes team admitted to cheating.

I'm here! I was in a truck all day yesterday. I had a blast! It was nice to actually be in first place in my very first road race, until the car caught on fire! Of course I didn't realize I was in first, but I knew I was doing well since I had lapped half the field after just four laps. The car was running great, then I smelled smoke, then I got a little warm, then I checked my mirrors and saw nothing but fire! So we relocated the fuel pump and replaced all the hose and got it back on the track. About an hour or so later, the fuel pump started giving out. In it's defense, it had been on fire. We could have run to Autozone and returned it under warranty (seriously), but we were exhausted and the AZ was nearly an hour round trip. We decided to throw in the towel and relax for the first time in a week or so. I believe once the bugs are worked out, the car will be a very strong contender, and is legitimately built out of crap I found on the floor of my garage. We'll be back for Nashville with a lined out, tested car, and I think we'll have a shot at a win.

The Supra surprised us all with it's speed. That thing was/is a rocket. We're in EC class so no competition for the actual contenders.

V-dubs corner like that man! Like a dog piddling on a fire hydrant. The ExFed car would lift it's inside rear so high it would actually stop spinning.

The Truck is street legal. For laughs some of us would lap with the blinker on. Thanks for the compliments btw. I'll pass those on to the builders.

No one cheats in crap can racing. Come on.

You definitely get the McGyver award for that. It was fun racing with you guys.

The rbankracing.com team (The #91 Red 1985 SAAB 900 Turbo) had a blast out there. The racing was fantastic. The track was fantastic. In fact everything was fantastic.

My props to some of the other teams that ran us so hard -- off the top of my head the Mercedes was awesome, the Rust Riders Z was a rocket, the Jacky Ickx Mitsubishi 3000GT had two great finishes, the Grim Reaper Mustang ran like a metronome as usual, the Family Truckster was awesome to watch on the highbanks -- what a ground pounder, the Triumph that not only ran fast it ran reliably, the ExFed VW which is always a tough competitor. This was some seriously good racing... by all teams in attendance.

It was awesome to bring home a victory on such a historic race track. We also made a small bit of history becoming the first team to win with all three budget endurance racing sanctioning bodies: 24 Hours of LeMons, ChumpCar World Series, and UsedCarRacing.

I got the chance to ice race earlier this year and it was said to me "You haven't raced until you have raced on ice." After having done that I know why my guys from ice racing are so skilled.

Best regards,

Robin Bank www.rbankracing.com

YEAH! Dood...it was awesome. Check the vidya here. The fun starts at 1:55. You see Corey's Escort go track left trailing flames from the rear and in the hatch.

Video of 16VCorey's ChumpCar car fire.

I was walking back to the pits at that point so had a front row seat. Corey came out of the car faster than Speedy Gonzalez chasing cheese.

Again, mad props for the repair and then getting back out. Talk about getting back on the flaming horse that nearly blew you up.

Man you guys were fast in that thing. Hats off. Not only did you race, and finish, with a Saab but you won! Mad respect.

It was fun being on course with you guys. Hope you come back for the VIR 24. Full course at night.

It's funny that you say that, because being in the car while it was in fire, it seemed like it took me an eternity to get myself unbuckled and out of there!

As we were finishing the repair, I looked around and noticed that I was the only one that was suited up. I think I was the team guinea pig, or canary, or something like that.
