The oil just falls on the belly pan and collects as a sludge that gets mixed with dirt creating a two inch layer of engine fire waiting to happen.

"Miatas suck because they burn through coil packs and only chicks drive them..." If I had listened to that sort of talk, I never would have bought my TDI, but I did anyway... and the TDI has turned out to be far more reliable and trouble-free than my Honda (Acura Integra) ever was with 100K fewer miles. The reality is many people own the cars and never have a problem.

True enough, everyone complains about the Toyota v8 starter being under the intake manifold but the truth is that's a once in 10 year repair. Maybe I should find a nice TT as my next daily driver.

All its waiting for at that point is a little bit of leaking brake fluid from the reservoir.....

Where I live VWs are VERY popular and seem to have a considerably higher market share than they do in other areas. Audis are popular too, but the closest Audi dealer is about 250km away so not as much as the VWs. My boss is on his second S4, and an A4 was before that. His daughters both drive TTs. He loves all of them and hasn't had any significant issues with any of them. There are always a bunch of VWs for sale locally and they all seem to have a metric E36 M3 ton of miles on them. The general public holds them in pretty high regard. Why?

Good dealership. They've been around for a long time and they seem to have a good rep.

I've had several VAG products. Some niggles, but no catastrophes. My Chevy pickup also has several OMG 100% failure rate issues that I've never had. What's my point? Well I'm glad you asked!

My general philosophy is when considering car advice on the interweb is divide the horror stories by 5, and multiply the good experiences by 5. That gets you close to the truth.
