Just curious as I've skipped this season of HPDE to pull parts off and add new ones for NASA TT.
I'll still likely spend most of my time doing HPDE, but when the competition itch hits, I wanted a class I could go play in and possibly be competitive with good driving.
If you are, what car are running in what class?
I'll be building the '90 Miata for TTC.
In reply to z31maniac:
What region, and how competitive?
TTC typically has S2ks very lightly modded in Great Lakes area, E36 M3s in Mid-Atlantic/NorthEast, and then highly modified Miatas out West.
Right now the power/weight ratio Greg is giving is very favorable to the miatas in TTC, so I dont think you should have a problem.
I won TTC in 2011 National Championships in an e36 M3, then switched to GTS2.
NASA TX region, since I'm in Tulsa, home track is Hallett.
Basic plan is to get the min comp weight as low as possible, then see what whp limit is from Greg.
205 R6
XIDA's with 800/500 rates
LSD
E prod air dam and wing
Then figure out what to spend the last 5 points on.
I'm not trying to build a nationals winning car or anything. Just one that would let me build the car mostly how I wanted to and still have a place to play when not doing HPDE.
I hopefully will be after I work some of the bugs out of my car. My dad will be running in ttc in his s2000, though this wont happen till next year.
I'm very much considering building a F Production CRX (Limited Prep) for SCCA PDX and TT, but hadn't considered NASA. This is contingent on a likely move to rural Georgia though, where PDX and TT are much more common than here in Ohio.
Anybody know both rulebooks well enough to know how difficult it would be to build a single car for both rulesets.
My e36 M3 was pretty much a TTC car so I stickered up, bought a set of Hoosier R6s in 255 and did rounds at Summit Point and VIR last year. Best finish was a 2nd on the Saturday after UTCC at VIR w/ a 1'16.5". I've got the non-X front brace and a pair of new non-adjustable LCAs - put those on and you have enough points left for a huge Brooks wing and making the splitter bigger. Then you're in the hunt.
It's fun, but nowhere near as much fun (or work, or cost) as campaigning a C sports racer in the DC Region SCCA MARRS series. Subsequently the car's been sitting pretty much for a year.
Anyone want a really, really well prepared TTC car?
How much? Hmmm... this vs. CRX?
I run a STS CRX in TTE ... not all that competitive, since I need to keep it STS legal ... you could build to CSP limits and be more competitive at TTE ... SMF might get you closer (I'm assuming that SMF is still a SCCA TT class)
CRX in question is a F Production car. I'd probably change a few things to make it F Production Limited Prep.
odds are that would translate to a TTD car .. you might be able to get it to TTE ... without the ECU I'd have quite a bit of pts to play with
you can also e-mail Greg and get the info for a dyno reclass that might free up some pts for you (that might get you down to TTE ) the car starts out as a TTF* car (the * = 7 pts before any mods) ... you move up 1 class every 20 pts
(NASA-SE and click on TT and check out the ruleset) (I specify NASA-SE since you'll be living in the Atlanta area)
I do. It depends on how competitive you want to be and what your budget is. If you're truly competitive, pick your platform very carefully, then build to the very extent of the rules. You're going to run a set of brand new stickered Hoosier A6's or R1's every weekend/day to win.
I didn't like how it was getting kinda ugly and my engine swapped 944 wasn't placed competitively class wise by the National TT director. So I just run Toyo RA1's and go out to have a good time...
^Yeah, I realize a Miata in TTC against the BMWs and S2Ks with Hoo-Hoos will take great driving to be competitive.

that's me with my STS/TTE CRX ... can't be competitive (since STS) so I just buy Hankook Z214's and use TT for uncluttered track time vs. the clusterfloop that can be DE 3 & 4 combined (with my 110hp) driving each session in my mirrors instead of out the front
