See title.

The RX-3 was towed into my garage yesterday. I'm unsure of the condition of the gas tank but it appears sourcing one would be an issue.

Caswell Plating has their kits 50% off this weekend.

Anyone have some experience to share?

Look in Sprockets. People seal motorcycle tanks all the time.

I seal 3-4 tanks a year. I usually use POR-15 sealer because I have had great experiences with it. I did my Fiat tank over 8 years ago and the inside is still pristine and hard as a rock.

I have no experience with it, but I do like the fact that the Caswell kit is a 2 part epoxy.

It is all about the prep. The tanks have to be perfectly clean. No rust, no oil, no nothing. I send them out to be acid dipped. I then solder small holes and rust perforation with an acid liquid flux and a plumbing solder. Then I move on to cleaning again and the drying, coating, drying, curing process.

Actually I have a tank to do in the next few weeks. I will do a "build thread" style post showing actual time involved.

Previous owner used POR-15 on my '76 2002 at least 12 years ago. No problems with it.

In reply to Jumper K. Balls:

Thanks I'd appreciate it. I'll just order one then do what you do. It's not like it'll hurt to do it but if I don't it's more work later.

I did the Eastwood kit on an MR2 tank. Worked. I poured the excess into one of those metal drip pans to see how it held up over time with exposure to automotive fluids, still impressed.

I've done over 25 tanks with the caswell stuff. Never a problem the 1st one i did was a VERY rusty Ducati tank with 3 prior attempts by the PO.... Striped it got rid of the rust them prepped for the sealer. It's still holding on great. I picked the caswell stuff for a simple reson that once cured theres no chemical way known to dissolve it unlike others i talked with and even nitro-meth will not take it off and one vintage go kart i have runs 15% nitro and i wanted to do its alum tank so after flushing could be quicker. Most of the other tanks i've done are old 70's fiberglass. Todays gas eats the resin

I used Bill Hirsch sealer years ago on my Spitfire and haven't had any trouble.

For cleaning out the tank, I've had good luck with either a chunk of chain or a handful of big bolts and vigorous shaking.

If you have a clean tank would this be good prevention?

I forgot to add that I used a couple of pounds of roofing nails. Dem barsterds worked like a charm.

Me I like 1/4 or 5/16 external star washers put them on a 4 inch loop (or what ever fits in the opening) of mech wire. MEK and washers and skake /slosh around until clean, then switch to evap-o-rust. Each day turn tank to let sit as it only works with contact. then clean and prep per the instructions.
