My wife and I were driving to dinner and I pointed out some generic hatch and said I'd love to flog it.

She said "you love those tiny little cracker boxes"

The week before were at a fancy steakhouse place and I was unmoved by the two Lamborghinis in the valet drive.

Those two incidents made me realize my love of craptastical little cars is  the automotive version of beer goggles.

I get it.

I worked on some amazing stuff.

An 06 Ford GT is fun and all but my favorite car to hoon around in is an AH Sprite.

You can use up everything it's got and not go to jail.

That's exactly how I feel driving my '76 Civic with the loud,  very quick revving D16Z6. It's a blast to drive & gets more attention than the fancy new cars in this beach town. It's interesting to me even little kids are in awe because they know it's different.

I'd say it's the opposite, don't know the word for it but the practical act of thinking far ahead and weighing the pros & cons.

Like wanting to go out with the bookworm knowing there won't be high maintenance compared with the super model.

Plus, they let you do the weird stuff.

Im more drawn to the random crap boxes at a Cars and Coffee than a new Corvette or 911...and 911 is my dream car.

I love cooler old cars, love seeing them. Theyre attainable, their niche, their rare.

At a recent C/C there were 4 C8 parked in a row...I never even walked to them. I looked at the track rat NA Miata for ten minutes though. And it was rusty and ROUGH. (rust on quarter panel)

Better than the other kind of beer goggles. Automotive beer goggles brings home rusty heaps that can be passed off to the next sucker for $$.

The other kind of beer goggles could bring you a lifetime attachment to someone you friends will now know that you jackhammered. And cost far more than a rusty hulk for at least the next 18 years.

Supercars are boring and anymore, a dime a dozen. I personally find most of them to be downright ugly. Besides, what use is a car that gets driven carefully to a C&C event every couple of weeks? Assuming it isn't raining.

The POS Chevy Chevette I saw driving the twisties in NC this past weekend was much more interesting.

Taste in cars is like sex, I'm no authority but I know what I like.

For me it's not supercar vs. crapbox - it is directly proportional to how angular a vehicle is. If a car is all straight lines and hard edges, it's less interesting than one that has curves and soft edges.

Let's say the choice is Viper vs. Lamborghini LP570 - I'm taking the Viper every single time. Because it's a car, I will never tire of looking at.

Perhaps unsurprisingly my preference for curves and soft edges isn't limited strictly to vehicular things; I also like my...roads...to be curvy and have soft edges.

If I hit the mega-jumbo jackpot tomorrow I'd buy things like a Lotus 23B and Porsche 356 perhaps even a Porsche 904 or 962........but I would also buy a Datsun 1200 wagon, put a Cosworth Vega engine in a Chevette and likely use a bone stock Mazda 2 for parts store runs.

There is something about small compact cars; I look at them and instantly think about the monumental abuse I want to heap upon them and what glorious fun it would be.

If I ever strike it big time I'm going to rallycross super cars and do diabolical things to them and then tell the service techs to fix it!  So I can do it again!  If I were wealthy I'd rallycross 50+ times a year and find out what all those exoensive cars can really do.

Here's my problem with that.................the supercars will probably do really well at this. They have all the bells and whistles as well as AWD.

Whereas getting a POS Chevette going faster than it has a right to is just hysterical fun.

(Due note I respect your wanting to beat on a 200K car because you have the money)

I agree with all that.  There is a ton of satisfaction in going fast on a budget.

I apologize y'all cuz my beer googles where thrown out of the parking lot when I laid eyes on the finest C8 today at local dining establishment. A seventieth anniversary edition in WHITE with special striping. Hate that blue on those. Enough of that I miss Db13's neon hope it went to a good home.

My beer goggles are Jaguars. At Age 14  I've worked on Jaguar race cars since then.   I've raced with a tiny budget because the basic car is still fast.
