1)
85 318i with H&R sports
silver/tan, 5 speed. fresh front brakes, new lemfoerder front control arms, new struts. Body is reasonably rust free for the area (coastal new england) but cancer is beginning to spread on the rocker panels and front fender lower areas.
high idle, leaking oil pan, speedometer usually works, odometer does not, clearcoat is flaking off severely up top, rear passenger window doesn't work, front passenger window grinds when it comes to a stop. Power locks all work.
gets probably 26 mpg highway
has probably 180k miles on it

2)
88 535i
black/tan, 5 speed with limited slip and e34 wheels
The body on this one is in truly incredible shape. The only real rust is in the back where the bumper struts meet the body. This will need attention.
brakes are great all the way around except for a dragging front driver's caliper. new UCAs with HD meyle bushings, new LCAs in box and perhaps installed, interior is great, sunroof works awesome, all power windows work, power locks do not work but I have yet to rebuild the driver's side lock which I have the parts for. Should probably have the guibo changed. Tires are beginning to get low in tread in the rear (wonder why?)
Seems to get ~28 mpg highway
has probably 260k miles on it

One or both has to go and you all will help me figure out which one!
I still have those e30 window motors sitting around....
between 1,500 and 2000 on the M10 car.
hard to peg that e28. maybe ~3000-ish?

Shoot me an email please.
I'll give ya $100 for both.
Of the 2 I'll keep the E28.

Agreed, except lower on the e28 likely. I don't think they are "Desired" in the same way the E30s are.
But an early, 4 door with cancer is going to be the least desirable of E30s.
Hell they probally are only worth 100 for the both... pm me a address and i'll send a check

What do you guys think of ebay for cars?
I"m thinking $1800 asking for the E30, and $3400 asking for the E28 if I were to put it on craigslist... With the goal of selling the E28 for about $2600
Luke
I think $1800 is a little too optimistic for the e30.

in the rust belt, and with the issues with the E30 otherwise, those were a $4-500 car all day here in Indiana(I think they've all met the crusher though). But you're in a higher "cost to live" area, so $1000+
the E28 is a bit harder to put a number on, as they aren't as desirable and less often come up. I'd say in its condition, and what it needs, it could bring $2000-2500.

The e30's rust is weird. Except for the fenders and the rocker, the rest of the car has very little rust at all. Usually when the rockers are this bad the rest of the car has rotted out.

Until recently, I've had great luck selling cars on eBay. Lately though, I keep getting high bidders / "buyers" who have some stupid excuse not to pay / follow through. Or I get scammers. Worst part is, you lose the fees & can't leave the "buyer" negative feedback. I've listed my 944 three times & done nothing but aggravate myself and rack up $300+ in eBay fees. Avoid.

Someone wants to trade this for the e30
He tells me the crank pulley is wobbling around... this is a common problem on the Subarus, but I'm not sure if it's caused a more serious issue yet
Anyway.. could this be a horrible idea?

Honestly, approach it as it does need a rebuild.....but that would be a decent trade for the 318i. Especially if you're looking for something like it.

I actually had a spare motor that I could use for the rebuild, but he was not interested in the E30 afterall. Too bad, because he was talked down to $700. I just don't have the cash. This would be the perfect car for me in reliable condition.
Boy, that's short money for an EJ22 Outback. I picked up a crusty '95 OB(the L with silly paint) in May and have been very happy with it other than the PO's neglect.
I'd still want to go look over the car to see how bad the engine is.
