There certainly is much for ~4k if you want that V8 rumble is there?

Was the g8 5 passenger? There's also the charger, the magnum, but none of those were 4k yet, there also the lt1 Chevy bubbles, pretty sure you can get like 14 people in those.

Give the Chrysler LX-chassis trio (Charger, 300, Magnum) a few more years, the early cars with V8's(2005-6) should be down to 4k by about 2017-18 or so. The early V6 cars are close, around 6-7k now. How about STS with the V8, not down to 4K yet but a lot of car for the money.

I've gotten kind of scared from the various Caddys due to a few very expensive repairs. Otherwise I'm VERY INTERESTED those!

Not really because you have the more expensive to maintain 5-series, and maybe E-Class cars. Infiniti has the M45, I believe.

Early ls400 ought to be down that range, and built to last.

GM said the modern replacement for the full-size RWD sedan was the Tahoe/Yukon (why they stopped making Roadmasters, Caprices and Fleetwoods) you can find 1999-2004 models of those all day long for around 4K. LS power FTW!

i recently debated (or argued?) with myself the merits of several mid-full size luxury cars.

in the end i still was drawn back to the panther platform. i get that they arent for everyone and arent as nice as some of the others in some respects. but they are dirt cheap, reliable, simple to work on....those are all things I like.

540i? I paid $4500 for my '98 540i/6 speed. I've put over 20k miles on it since May 13th.

I've hauled around me + 4 adult passengers many times, I won't admit to getting them silly sideways though.

For my wants in this category, I'm trying to see the pros and cons on the very early 2000's Caddys and the BMWs. Of course I'd have an I6 in the 5 Series and the Deville is at least a V8 but it's FWD.

If you go with a Deville, i'd reccomend the DTS, 25 more horses and slightly more agressive suspension tuning. Frend of the family had one, and that thing would flat out move if you mashed on the go pedal. Definitely impressive for a big FWD sedan. The DHS was geared more towards the traditional blue-hair crowd, but it's still got a V8. Find one that's had the water pump and head gaskets done and you should be good to go.

LS400 would be my recommendation.

Panther was indeed the last body on frame, two bench seat 6 passenger, rear wheel drive V8 car.

thanks. I see now that saying "panther" is much shorter than saying (or typing) "The 1978-2001 Ford Crown Vic/Mercury Grand Marquis/Lincoln Town Car."

As far as Panthers, they got it all (except manual grrrrrrrrrrr...) but I can't get over the stigma I have for the people I SEE driving them. It's punk kids or dirtbags (I'm a snob now) driving the P71's and heavy, older, two-packs-a-day women driving the civy ones or the Grandmas Keys.

At least the Deville has a relationship to the CTS's even though it's more in the name and outward appearance. They and the 5 Series don't have the low-rent stigma attached to them around here (southeastern Ma).

I've seen some Magnums for under $3K recently. I'm sure not V8. This was at a local "JD Byrider" and they won't let you search their inventory without hoopjumping. I saw at least 2 out by the street as I drove by though.

Sure that's not 3k down? There are $3k magnums out there but they are the junkiest ones. A 'good' one is still 5k+ and 5k gets you a 2.7L/4spd auto.

It isn't Roadmaster big but my XJR will fit three in the back.
