Thank you sir! This is going to be almost as much fun as when Mazdeuce had That Issue with his AMG....
I will admit I sunk way too much into mine on the engine replacement. Other than that, my beast has been as reliable as gravity. Power steering pump, starter, and an complete exhaust system a d a few odds and ends. This is a truck I daily and use for towing my boats back and forth. It's a thirsty beastie, but a lot more fun to drive than the other SUVs I tested.
For those that forgot. The replacement 4.6 I put into mine was a completely rebuilt unit with the top hatted liners. The engine alone cost me 8 grand, but then i got totally rooked by the installer who charged me for 40 hours worth of work with the book R&R was 15 hours. He also "lost" a thousand dollar payment I made to him when it came in way over what I budgeted. So he got me for a good 4 grand in labor. I was not shy about my displeasure on yelp, especially considering how much of his work I was required to fix afterwards. For example, the oilpan started to leak, when I got under it, almost all the bolts holding it on were missing.
Would I buy another one if something happened to this one? I probably would even if G-wagons and X5s seem nice, It is fun to crawl up the backside of seemingly faster and better handling vehicles on highway cloverleafs, something I doubt the G-wagon could do.
I have an LR3 which is the next generation. I did not pay much more for it and it has been extremely solid so far, and is easily the nicest driving vehicle I have ever owned. I would reccommend anyone looking to move up a few years and get the LR3, preferably with the Ford V6 which is bulletproof and has adequate power, but more than the D2's v8.
