Now here's a briliiant idea - Strap four hydrogen tanks pressurized to 4900 psi into a race car (two in the trunk, and two in the passenger seat area), and enter it into a 24 hour race.

At Nurburgring, arguably the most dangerous track in the world.

Instructions to the drivers: "Whatever you do, don't stall out on the course. And don't get T-boned. And don't go backwards into the tire wall."

Any volunteers for drivers? No?

Say, what's that little badge on the side? Does it say "Hindenburg"?

Isn't Aston Martin a British make?

Good for them. It's never easy being the first. I'm sure they'll take the necessary precautions.

Why the fear of H2? It's not that bad.... Gas is very dangerous as well- it will stick to you, and THEN burn, but H2 wont.

It's also got a lot less energy when it burns vs. gas. Quite a bit less.

Storeage is a bigger problem than safety. Making a safe high pressure device is not a big deal. Storing a useful amount of H2, and make it stay- that's hard.

Yeah I don't quite understand that either.

Not so sure about that. Did you see this quote from the comments section?

"Danger of explosion. Natural gas (a flammable gas that most people are familiar) is explosive; if you mix it with air at ratios between 5 to 15%, it will explode when an igniton source is present. We're fortunate that it only explodes within this range, or else the gas pipes in your house would explode every time you had some plumbing work done and some air got into your gas lines. As long as MOST of the gas in the pipe is natural gas you are safe.

Hydrogen isn't like that. Its ignition energy is much lower and it will explode over a range of 4% to 75%. So it will explode over a range more than five times greater than natural gas, and the explosion will be easier to set off. Examples of industrial accidents where just a small amount of air got into a hydrogen tank - rsulting in a massive explosion - are common."

God help us when they start to reclaim the helium 3 from the dark side of the moon.......those moon nazis aren't going to give that up easily.

Explode or burn? They are very different. And lets not mistake a sudden fireball with an explosion.

I don't doubt it burn easy.

I doubt it will explode that easy.

He's right, the majority of racing dirigibles use hydrogen. People are only afraid of hydrogen because the only reason they know it exists is the Hindenburg, it's not as dangerous as most people think.

Didn't the Hindenburg burn so quickly due to the alloys and the "fabric" used in its construction? That would mean that the H2 just burned along with everything else.

Oh the huge-manity....
