Heavier, uglier 4000 IMO. Possibly the worst car on the planet to do a heater core on. They are nice enough cars but not really fast. The 5 cylinder is indestructible but very heavy and hangs way out past the front wheels. I had a 4000 Coupe GT for 12 years and really liked it but the design is pretty old school by today's standards. Not easy or inexpensive to get go-fast parts for. Typical German car where the power accessories will cause problems and the repairs can be pricey, particularly if you have to buy at the stealership.
Wife had a 90 when I met her, it had the ginormous trunk of doom. It was a nice car, up until the point that the rear end grenaded itself on the highway between Birmingham and Huntsville.
Evidently neither her not her dad thought to ever service the rear diff (quattro).
Sometimes I think about getting another one since she loved the car so much, and this time actually maintain it.
My buddies 80 was cool. It was Roth to buy parts for. "1990 audi 80" is a confusing phrase to hear when your behind the counter at Autozone.

I got a free one, bad tranny. A junkyard auto trasmission was $700, a reman was $900 - 1100.

I can't speak for high mileage really cheap examples, though.... mine had 48k original miles, and drove and looked like new.
If you like it, and it seems decent, i'd still go for it. They're just that damn cool.

Yeah, I think this one's good. I love them also. I would definetly maintain it, that's just how I am
As much as I'd love to turn it into an IMSA GTO Quattro, I don't think I have enough money or tools.
