Hi folks, found a very challenge friendly A4 that the owner claims was running fine, but he ran it out of gas, and now it runs rough. Is this as simple as a new fuel filter and some injector cleaner? Car looks really clean for the money.
Thanks

Cheap Audis are the most expensive vehicles known to man...IMO, if it isn't running 100% perfect, I would run away.
Audis were all factory galvanized beginning in the mid 80's, so they don't rust - but beware, many of them are deceptively clean as a result.
before you toss it away.... try replacing the fuel filter... often times when you run out of gas you will bring up all kinds of junk. Toss another filter in...
even the fuel filter isn't easy. requires getting under the rear passenger floor and halfway dropping the gas tank to access it. i don't know how i kept mine for 3 years without going nuts doing DIY maintenance.
Depends on which A4 it is. The ones I have seen have the filter under a bracket by the back axle. The bracket comes off with bolts and the filter and lines are held by torx or triple square screws( I cant remember which. The fuel pump is under the back seat and is accessed through a bolted access panel on the passenger side of the back seat.
It is pretty easy to fix after you have replaced all of the million stupid little brittle plastic not-for-sale-individually pieces that you broke while replacing the filter and pump. Once it cost me $350 in parts to replace a $40 fuel filter on an audi A4...and that doesnt include the cost of the filter.
