I've been interested to see just how hard the folks at IROZ Motorsports will push their Audi's, and I'm continually amazed by the power numbers these cars are making on mostly stock motors.

For one, I don't know anything about the current status of VWAG's 2.5L Five-Cylinder, other than it appears to have been introduced in its largely unchanged form way back in 2012 when it was first used in the RS3 and TTRS.

Since then it's been used in quite a few different products, some of which might make nice family haulers.

Is it possible to get a 2.5 TSFI Five in something under $15k? Or are the older cars still holding their value pretty well?

RS3s jumped up to $50k-ish.

You can still make 800-900hp with the generic 07K engine used since 2005.  The largest problem is keeping a drivetrain behind it.

It's been a while since I looked into 07k's, but from what I can remember, certain years came from the factory with a forged crank. You'll also need a DAZA crank pulley if you're wanting to pull high RPM.

I've thought about trying to adapt one for my 200 20v since AAN and 3B engines have almost doubled in price recently, but I don't have the skill to fab the mounts and adapters, let alone a turbo manifold. It's a shame because the stock 07k head outflows even a wildly ported AAN head by a pretty considerable amount iirc.

VAG 5cyls are complete garbage. Zero value added. Just plain CRAP.

07k swap the world!!! Just trying to keep the prices down.

It's the planned engine for my Opel project once I can get it rolling.

I was just at a local shop where he had 3 URQuattros and 2 of them swapped out the old 5 for an 07k just like Hank did to his own URQ.

LS vs 07kT vs KseriesT. So many good, easy to get engines.

If you get one without the forged crank (6 bolt flange for flywheel) you can buy a TTRS/RS3 one (8 bolt flange) for about $1300.

And the sound...oh my!

Man, I worked on a old 90 last year that I was desperately trying to get the owner to let me 07k swap instead of the 034efi'd MC1 that was in it. They 07k sounds amazing. When I was at Audi we had a few TTRS' that came through needing entire fuel systems replaced because the pumps grenaded and sent shavings throughout. I'd still take one.
