About due for a brake job on my 99 miata. Brakes clear 14 inch steelies, so i guess non sport.

Car is occasionally street driven. Primary autocross.

Whats the good but inexpensive stuff? I can't seem to find a consensus.

Pads and rotors are needed. Not much else at this time.

I ran el cheapo $10 Rock Auto blank rotors and never had a problem. And I was not gentle on them. Right now I'm running some goofy WaveSpec rotors, but I'm not sure they actually do anything different, although they earn major hotboi points.

I've run both Porterfield R4S and whatever the mild Hawk pads are, HP-S maybe. Liked them both. Pretty quiet, solid bite. Both fairly dusty, but that's the price to pay.

How is the balance?  In my previous Miata autox experience, you needed to run much lower friction pads on the front than the rear.

Cheapo parts house rotors/

Hawk HPS front pads and HP+ rear pads will give you enough rear bias (really just neutralizes the factory front bias) to get the car to rotate properly.

This is the very well tested and proven STS/STR setup for the NA/NB chassis.

Cool.

Hadn't thought about changing pad compounds front and back .

I normally drive autocross with left foot braking for rotation anyway. How would your reccomend setup change the behavior of the car in this scenario?

Is your Walmart out of Miata brakes?

Good question. Left foot braking works, but requires a good boot to really rotate.  So, not great balance?

You running with triad this year? Im registered for the two day test and tune if you're still interested in co-driver status....

I'm not planning on running anywhere.  I'd definitely come out to an event, but I have my son that week(end).  Single dad life :)

That said, if you are open to the event March 29th in Winston, I'd be interested!

I honestly wouldn't worry about getting it to rotate with the brakes.  We could discuss setup with this car, but its probably a discussion for another thread.

I really like the hawk hp+ and hps.  On a second gen rx7, we would run them with the more aggressive pads in the front due to the opposite brake balance issue.

i might have nb ebc red rear pads, but they may be nc pads.  If they work you can have them for whatever i paid off the clearance rack at summit

Please! I need to learn more about ebc pad compounds though....

I wouldn't change my reccomendation.  STS Miata setup is the sort of thing that is REALLY well documented and there isn't anything particularly inovative to do for autocross.  I have the same setup on my old 97 that has morphed into a CSP car and it has phenominally good brakes.  It's honestly better than my NC running HPS 5.0 pads all around.
