After a 10 year break I have decided to do a bit more autocrossing. I have the R56 Cooper S so that is what I am going to use for now. My question is, what is the tire consensus for 200TW these days? Also, anyone here running a MINI, what size are you using for 17 inch rims? A 225x45x17?
RE71R for asphalt, Rival S 1.5 for concrete.

Wow, that's really specific!
I have been looking at RE71Rs already so that is good to know. I'm not sure about the width though.

The 225s are probably a good start on a MINI. At a nationals type level, you generally want to run as wide as you can cram onto the wheel and not hit the fenders.

I would stick with stock width. The RE71R has unbelievable grip, and if it's been a 10 year hiatus, you probably aren't going to be at the pointy end of the field anyway.

Its probably going to be shocking how bad I am going to be at this with such a long layoff. I was used to being at the pointy end, but now...its going to be ugly!

+1 on the 'stones as well, although I bought ZII Star Specs for my R53 on 16x7 rims.
What class are you running in? 225's will probably be as wide as will be effective on stock width rims.
My car is in STX so I'm looking at trying to squeeze 17x9 and 245's under the fenders. I'll probably have to go with coil-overs for additional front clearance. 9" and 245 may not fit at all in the back.
It will be D Street with the stock 17x7s. It appears I can get 205-45's, 215-45's, or 225-40's in RE71s, without much difference in price between all of them. I was always in the wider is better camp, but not sure about clearance with the 225s or if that was even the right call here. I'm a bit reluctant to make too many changes to the car until one, I find out how the car drives, and two if I will continue with it at all. I spent most of my time in mid engine cars, so not only am I going to be very, very rusty, but fwd is not something I spent much time in. I do however have a soft spot for MINIs, so we'll see.
