Had my first session with the 200sx. Pretty happy with how it ran. One interesting wrinkle is the oil pressure gauge was not working. I quick check reveled that the sender wire was never hooked up and it's current using the stock sensor wired to the idiot light. I want to rectify that.
Can I hook up to the stock sender or do I need to get an Autometer one? Since I'm going to be there and it's a total pain in the ass working on that side of the engine, does Autometer or someone make a relocation kit that would be compatible?
Autometer one would be best. You can use a braided hose and adapters to relocate it. Bought mine at speedway motors.
If the stock sender is designed to run an idiot light, then you will need a different sender. Idiot light senders are on/off switches. Gauge senders are variable resistors. The sender should match your gauge, if the gauge is not adjustable for senders. It's just plumbing after that.
Note that Toyota oil pressure senders are BSPT thread, or British Standard Pipe Tapered, all spelled out. Dunno about Datsun senders.
On our Lemons car we added a "T" off the stock oil port. One side went to a mechanical oil pressure gauge (we used kit supplied plastic hose) and the other side held the stock sender to run the idiot light in the cluster, JIC.
Personally, I like an idiot light. I saved one motor with one. I would have saved another had the light actually been visible instead of this little hint of light. My plan for the Europa and my 7 are to put a 18 wheeler LED tail light into the dash and use that as the oil pressure idiot light. I had one ready to install in the Elise when the dumb berkeleying kid with the Jeep totaled it.

I'm liking the idea of a mixed mode warning as well. I don't have the Autometer sender, so I have to either get another one or switch to another gauge. And as I mentioned, I want to move the oil filter location as its just about impossible to get to where it is.
Thanks,
