After only getting about 20k miles out of a set of store-brand "silver" level brake pads on my old van, I had to go to a couple different places and then argue with the guy at the computer to find a set of pads that were: in stock, name brand, and not made in the PRC. And it's not like the 97 Ford E-150 is all that esoteric. I am all for getting a good deal and not paying more than I have to, but when I've got 10,000 pounds of GCVW to bring from 70 to 0 as quickly as possible, a crap brakepad can get really expensive really fast.

my father in law replaces the wheel bearings on his s10 4 or 5 times in a 6 month period... this last one seems to be holding up... but before that he kept going to the same auto-zone getting the part warrantied... he finally went to another one and seems he got a different batch of wheel bearings that aren't complete crap...

What kind of grease were the bearings packed with, 13 months ago?

Since I've been using Amsoil synthetic I haven't had a bearing go south. My trailer bearings look new every time I check them.

Well I just wanted to update. I went to the AutoZone that I always go to and was straight up with the guy about the part being out of warranty. I even had the receipt for it with me (I think this amazed him as it was a year plus old). He looked it up and I also see him taking a look at my purchase history as well as my "garage" (there are something like 20 cars listed in it) and said to me that he has to make a phone call. He proceeds to call some one and said a couple words that I could not here as he had stepped back from the counter by the parts racks. After a couple more words he hangs up and said that they will honor the warranty and give me a replacement at no cost.

So although I am not pleases by the part only lasting one year and less than 5K miles. I am really pleased with the customer service and the guys at Autozone standing up and doing rite by me. Proof to me that they value my business. It is also proof that it pays to develop a relationship with your parts guy. .. . .

Hope this one works better for you. Oh, and whenever you put grease in a wheel bearing, make sure you use only Genuine Harley Davidson Wheel Bearing Grease. Seriously.

I have learned to avoid Auto Zone, and for my Malibu to only buy GM bearings, Besides getting less than 30k out of the rep;acements I just did a power steering pump this sprig. The old one had a good leak. The new one screams and no amount of bleeding will make it go away. They said some of them do no matter what, but they have a lifetime warrenty so I can swap out as many as I need to till I get a quiet one.
