We may have a problem
Now I am in the market for a short block, hoping for some Ford guru input
I have found one I think will work but want feedback on how this looks and the parts in it, I am not an engine builder

Holy crap! Three of your pistons are installed wrong!
Naw, that's set up for the 'twist port' heads.

You mean green slime in the the cylinder bores is bad? I've been doing it wrong!
Photos of the carnage once you remove the pan are going to be intresting.
On a side note your block may be ok jusy depends on what hsppened down under.
We had the pan off and the bottom seems fine, rod probably stretched and then let go on a cold start
Good excuse to get a 331 anyway
Is this on the Mustang you got up this way, Steve?
Aww damn, I thought this was about me.

No wounded the RX5.0, chasing an engine in your area though, open to another check and view for me

You should know me better than than John, nothing stock is going back in there
A couple of hours on Facebook and I found a great candidate
High compression 306, Ross pistons, good block for someone who's building a nitrous or n/a car, forged rods and crank, a girdle support
Side B is no better
and from there it gets worse
Shrapnel
It fits in here somewhere
Maybe not
let me guess... it was just idling and you totally weren't beating on it at all when that happened..

It was, we just went through the fuel system, pulled the pan to check the bottom end and put it back together, started it and it made a bunch of loud noises, turned it off and it wouldn't turn over again.
We actually went over the bottom end when the pan was off and checked end play with gauges, nothing obvious was out of place.

Of course I would love to help. My brother-in-law is a really Mustang guy so I will drag him along. Raynham is just around the corner. Let me know the details.

I see what you did there...
At least you've got other stuff to drive in the meantime.

Did you money shift it right before that or something? Really weird that 2 rods let go at once, at startup.
In reply to AngryCorvair:
The rod bolts are almost entirely a tension load, so forgetting to torque them would not cause an immediate failure at idle like this.
EDIT: GOT IT, removed the rod caps, plastigauged, then a faulty torque wrench led to an over tightening of the rod bolts putting them well into yield seriously weakening them.

Bring me beer and help me yank the engine/trans out of the roommate's mustang and I'll take the $3000 you wanna give me!
