Disclaimer: Not mine, no association. Just a badass car.
My friend found this on CL and sent it to me the other day. E34 Touring, with a M60B40 swap that was done proper, spinning a manual transmission. The sexy Style 32s just complete the package. I'm so pissed this wasn't for sale when I was looking for an E46, I totally would have bought this instead.
I figured this is the perfect crowd to appreciate a rare car like this.

Sweet, but I'd hate to work on it. Make mine an S54...

Which is why I'm not selling my E46 for this. I'd rather put an S54 in my sedan.
Although, I'd rather put an S54 in an E46 touring... Hm.
Bring a Trailer linked to that car last week: http://bringatrailer.com/2013/11/29/v8-6-speed-swap-1994-bmw-540it/

I'd rather 4.8/5.3/6.0 LS from a truck (whatever the code is) and use what ever transmission I found first for a good price (T-56 hopefully, could deal with an auto though...)
The idea of putting an S54 in my E39 has crossed my mind more often than is probably healthy.
Sweet, someone actually gets the concept of a sleeper for a change! That is an awesome ride.

That thing is not any more sleeperish than a stock 2014 v6 Camry which is just as fast. Or a v6 Accord. Or a v6 Altima. Etc etc.
But it's definitely a cool car.

No kidding! I love a good sleeper.

Just because there are modern appliances that are just as fast doesn't make it less of a sleeper. The fact that it's much faster than stock while looking mostly stock defines it as one.
I just need a wagon since we have a family now.
But we just closed on a house, we dont have the coin.

Notice none of your examples are wagons.
I guess I'll keep saving for a CTS-V.

Right, that's why i DIDNT say it was LESS of a sleeper than those vehicles.
That is nice but I would almost rather have a M30 engine with a turbo. I'm not particularly fond of BMW v8s.
M30 is probably my favorite engine from that company. Simple, powerful, cheap, undestroyable, great for a turbo install, etc. I've seen people make S54 power with those with a cam and MSPNP or WAR chip as well except it would take 1/10th the money to maintain or rebuild (read as: chuck the engine, buy another $300 M30, install it).

I agree completely. For any body that would easily accept one, the M30 is the quintessential BMW engine. I'd love to have another.
