Where are we on this?

I spent way too much on a Schumacher jump box which was never as good, and always dramatically heavier, than I expected it to be.

Something like that?

What if I also want it to have a standard 12V auto outlet?

I got something very similar to that for Christmas this year, and managed to try it out this past weekend on my neighbor's minivan.

It was awesome. Car started right up.

Mine is a 400A one.

Here at work, we've also changed totally over to those kind of systems instead of the bigger old ones. They are really something.

The 12V out is something I need to look into, too- as I'd like to use it as the battery for a separate system I want to make. So I can't answer that question.

This is the one I got a while back, it comes in a nice case with a bunch of accessories including a female cigarette lighter port, USB ports for charging phones and stuff, and then some random barrel plugs for charging random devices with variable voltage output (12, 16, 19). It's pretty amazing. Also, it jump starts cars.

Mine's not as compact as that, but has a 12V outlet, cigarette lighter style plug.

I've got a Schumacher Mity Mite, it's a 12 Ah SLA battery, with a trickle charger, status led, and a pair of 8 Ga. leads with alligator clamps, only bell and/or whistle is the 12V outlet on the side. It's heavy, it's slow to re-charge, it's a lot bigger than the one you linked, but it served me well for ~10 years.

In fact I liked it so much, when it finally gave up the ghost about 3 years ago, I went on a week long search for a replacement battery, and charger for it, so I could repair it, instead of tossing it and getting something new.

It is what it is, and nothing it, ain't, a rechargeable battery in a box with a handle, and jumper cables attached to it. It works.

My pops gave me one for a gift giving holiday, every auto parts store had stacks of them on sale. I charged it up, put it in the glove box and 4 months later when I finally had a need for it I was surprised to find that it had grown It went from about an inch thick to two and a half inches in the middle. It hadn't appeared to leak anything, broke a few CD's in the glove box when it tried to take up more space than allotted to it.

I assume it did this with some byproducts like heat and smoke. Glad I wasn't in the car when it happened, also glad it didn't catch on fire. Those Lithium ion batteries can melt down pretty spectacularly.

I guess my caution is to get a good quality one and check on it regularly? Not sure what I am saying. Maybe I am still mourning the loss of some awesome "Fastbacks" CD's?

I bought this from my Matco guy last year (paid way too much), but it is impressive.

After sitting in my trunk for 3 months without use it was still at 100% charge. It jump started my C1500 with a 5.7 3 times in a row and still had 92% charge left. I bring it camping to charge all my devices via USB port.

It does not have a 12V power port (cig lighter style), so it may not be what you prefer. Any of the jumper packs with good reviews is better than the old style jumper batteries though. Pretty incredible what power they can get out of such small batteries.
