2014 Mustang. Probably 2-3 months (maybe 1000 miles) since I opened the hood and was greeted with this. What causes this? Planning to clean it and spray CRC terminal treatment but curious about the root cause? Battery or alternator or ?

That's the best guess. Acid is what's causing the corrosion, and the only place acid is going to come from is inside the battery.
I dunno. I've had two odysseys and 3 batteries between them and they did this to all three batteries worse than any other car/battery combo I've had.
I do think the electrical system has something to do with it. Would love to know what it is!!
Edit, worth mentioning the odysseys do it to the positive terminal. The negative terminal stays pretty nice.

Here's a good link from that same site.

same experience here, 2003 and 2010 Odysseys have been the worst terminal skankers i've owned.

Ok, so maybe I'm not crazy?
not by the metric of "same experience as AngryCorvair re. Odyssey battery terminal corrosion = not crazy"
but by other metric(s), perhaps.

What's interesting is my two Odyssey's terminals have been clean ('05 and '17). Every Toyota I've owned ('98 Camry, '06 Rav4) have always had massive corrosion buildup on the terminals. So maybe I'm the crazy one!
When I first started working on cars my future FIL told me to take some petroleum jelly and smear it in the joint where the terminal comes through the battery casing, he grew up on a Farm and is famous for being extra "frugal". I have been doing that for the last 30 some years and have never had Fuzz on any of my vehicals.

I do this as well to keep terminal corrosion at bay, as a cheaper and more attainable alternative to dielectric grease. It's always worked well for me, even on my Samurai that sees a lot of deep wading.
