Hey all, I'm a somewhat recent transplant to the bay area, San Rafael to be exact. Any other GRM folks around the neighborhood? Would love to meet some fellow car nerds in the area. Anyone planning to be at the Dec Lemons event at Sonoma?

San Francisco. I have been thinking about this one for a while - do people want to organize a tour of Academy of Art's car collection. This collection is serious museum stuff, Pebble Beach level. I walk by it every so often. Maybe we could schedule a GRM tour.

This stretch of Van Ness also has some nice window shopping for Lamborginis and vintage Porsches too. Just a thought.
San Francisco (Sunset) also!
Sonoma Raceway/Infineon/Sears point is just a hop away, and NASA hosts really good HPDEs.

Absolutely, my wife and I have wanted to check out that place since we moved down.
I'm in San Jose.
Local forums I look at occasionally are baautox.com and norcalroadsters.com. NCR has monthly meets at in a couple locations around the bay area.
SFR SCCA has a slush series event on the 24th, down in Marina, and then another (last of the year) on 12/8.

I will look into it, I think they only have small groups and it looks like it only Tues and Thurs which is a tricky for scheduling. Sometime before the end of the year I will give them a call to see if they are more flexible with dates.
I have heard this is a really good bay area museum too, never been:

Oakland here. You'll find that the bay area has as good backroads as you could wish for (although some can have excess traffic at times). Empire Sports Car Club in Santa Rosa throws great events, and their autocrosses have a much better ratio of wait time to run time than SCCA events.

It would be fun to get GRMers together. Even something like a beer night or indoor go-cart sessions would be a good way to meet friends.
Alviso represent!
I also have a 4 car garage, so could host a GRM garage day. Just sayin.
At the Challenge currently, should wander back mid-December.

I was waiting for Capt' Slow to post. I think he's up in the Boulder Creek area.
I would love a GRM field trip to the Academy of Art car museum. I curious if it is available other days than Tuesday and Thursday without the guided tour.
Whether we do a car museum or not, I have been thinking that a Bay Area GRM meet-up might be really fun.
I second the vote for a Bay Area meet-up, either museum sounds great. Also does anyone plan to attend the Sonoma Lemons race?

And another question... Any tips on finding a rental garage space in the north bay? I've got a 70% complete project car I need to move down from Seattle so I can finish it off.
I used to rent a 10' x 40' space for >$500/month at American Steele in Oakland (http://americansteelstudios.com), which is a warehouse that mostly caters to burners and crazy car people. It's been several years, though, so dunno what rent is these days. Be forewarned, it is DUSTY, but it's got a great vibe and a 7.5 ton crane. Who needs a cherry picker when you have a 7.5 ton crane?! :D
EDIT: That should read "<$500/month" :D
In menlo park myself, a meet-up sounds like a great idea

Rohnert Park here; I run with ESCA and was their autocross chair last season.
Not much in the way of winter events around here; no one wants to play in the rain or get their car dirty.
We are doing a monthly Karting series right now at Driven Raceway (the one here in RP, not the one in Fairfield). Next event is 12/10, starts at 6pm. You're more than welcome to join us
You'll need to log in to post.
