I haven't seen one that clean/origna in 15 years - 5-6k would be a steal. Production numbers were really low on the 16v Rocco's.
I remember when we would take cars like this for 200-500 and just cut them apart to put the motor in a Rabbit and then run that into a ditch or tree...
My dad had a glorious immaculate 16v with euro bumpers, some great wheels.... he just told me a few weeks ago he decided to sell it.
Put it up for $3k and had people beating down the door.
sold it the next day and the buyer had the audacity to negotiate him down. I was equally mad at both.
I told my dad he is not to sell anything else without consulting me.
he recently did the same thing with a mint crf450 that he didn't ride. He listed it at something like $2500. Same deal.
Daddddddd......
That's super cheap for a 78k mile example! If it was a 16v GTi I'd bid on it. I'm not such a fan of the rocco's, but man for under $7k it sure is tempting...
I dont know. I look at that car and dont think its in such good shape.
- bad repaint with over spray (driver's door latch)
- the reupholstered seats don't look well done. That plus at least he should have used VW tartan colors. And done the back seat.
- mirrors should be painted.
- driver's side tail light not from a 16v
- headliner messed up. Who does seats and not the headliner?
At this point I am not even sure it has 78k miles. I love Sciroccos, but this is not the one. This is the one you buy from 1000 miles away and when you get it, it dissapoints you.
This car is a $3k car tops.
I just quickly looked at it, but there is a reason this car is getting no traction.

I was only responsible for one dying , sold it to an acquaintance who decided it wasn't worth fixing...
I still have the intake manifold though.
Happened to be browsing Craiggers while in Boston and found this:
https://boston.craigslist.org/bmw/cto/d/waltham-1987-volkswagen-scirocco-runs/7264565152.html
Asking 10,750
bat sold it for $8150
using the same pics!
$8150 plus buyers fee and any shipping. Seller is not making a whole lot there, which makes you wonder what's wrong with it...

Yeah, I see what you mean. It sounds like a deal but the more you look at it....

I thought maybe I was having a stroke. I kept switching between tabs to make sure I clicked the correct link. wtf?

Maybe someone recycled the ad so they don't have to pay CL another five bucks to sell another car? If you look at the URL is still says 1987-scirocco.
