Oh, I know of BSR. I'm currently following their W201 budget build series on youtube. I don't know any tractor pull champions that could mentor me through my build though.

This has inspired me. I now want a miata with a B2200 bell housing and a diesel engine from european mazdas, ford temp, random mitsu, 80's rangers or dodge d50s, etc. Just for the 50mph daily driver dick around car.

The later twin cam Merc diesels are pretty appealing. It seems like they only really need moar turbo, moar boost, moar cooling, and a little pump work to be cool. I guess a 190D 5 speed would swap into a W124 without too much pain....

Maybe even a late model W126 would do the trick. Very heavy, but there's lots of luxury to strip out of it and the suspension is simpler.
