Subjective of course. For some reason I want one of these, and I’m NOT a ford fan.

You can find the Mk 2 Capris still if you are patient. Those mostly look like Mk 3 on the outside, but the 2s are quite 70s-tastic on the inside .
They have the lower control arm located by the swaybar.
Mine had the 2.3 Lima and a side shifting 4 speed. I wish i had the title for it, it would have had a Zetec in it if my delusions of grandeur were realized.
So, I’m having a hard time picturing the size of these. I know the later capris were smaller. But is this generation in need of a v8? Or does it do fine with a modern four banger?

I...uh....don’t get it man.
Berkleying Better than a mustang
They're similar in size to the Mk1 Escort.
They can take a V8, but that makes them even more nose heavy.
The brakes are undersized and the suspension is a bit archaic.
My Dad had an early one, very cool car IMO, but then I was a young kid when he had it and he tended to drive the wheels off of it.
BTW, Berkeley means fornicating, so that's why he said he's never seen a Mustang do that. I'm sure there's places on the web to see that.
Doesn’t the site auto correct the “efff word” though? I think I get the joke, just not sure if it was a good one. also, I have to agree with what someone else on this forum said earlier- our new emojis suck.

Why not a modern V6. they make what used to be V8 power in a smaller and lighter package
I'd say its probably similarly sized to a Pinto. People like to talk about the 2.8 V6 lovingly and it only 130-160 hp (per Wiki's Cologne page). Find one with a 4 speed and a 4 cylinder, and bolt a Zetec SVT to the bellhousing. Boom 170hp. Of course fab some motor mounts and replumb the coolant and other type things but it's a pretty well establish swap in Europe/UK. You can even use the Lima's clutch/flywheel/starter if you move the 36-1 crank sensor from the back of the Zetec flywheel to the pulley.
a SOHC 4.0L Cologne V6 is available starting in the 97 Explorer/Mustang, etc, so why not go that route as a more direct swap instead?
Its 210hp with a variable length intake, etc. with a few more tweaks it could make a bit more power:

add some big flares and walla!

The suspension is pretty similar to the 1st Gen RX-7 and that works pretty well for most stuff.
In reply to ultraclyde :
Lot more suspension, brake, and rear axle parts to choose from that would be for sure!

I'm glad it's not just me. The new emojis totally suck. I mean, they're embarrassing.
I knew a girl in high school that had a Mercury Capri. Cute car. Girl wasn't bad either!
The first car I bought with my own money was a 73 Ford Capri 2600. Outside of the rust and the impossible to find donut in the steering shaft and crappy radiator design (Pinto was the upgrade) I really liked it. Kinda miss it too.
In reply to 1988RedT2 :
The Mercury Capri was just a rebadged Mustang.
The Ford Capri was a completely different animal.

No, I was speaking of the first generation car. I see that the wiki claims it bore no marque, and went only by "Capri", but I remember the "sexy European" television commercials. I'm pretty sure they said "by Lincoln-Mercury" or something similar. Sold only through Lincoln-Mercury dealers. I've always thought of the first gen cars as Mercury's.
