Best $20 ever spent

The other day, my friend and I were at work, and my other friend asked if we'd help him go get something from his house. So we hooked up his truck to the trailer, and drove across town, where we found a 1988 Festiva in his backyard. He had bought it for $20 a few years ago. It had a rattle-can paintjob and a hole in the roof, and wouldn't start. We towed it out to the track, and got to work. I replaced the fuel pump, and we got it to run. We then proceeded to cut the roof off, and it all went downhill from there.

I don't have many good pictures of it, but here's a video montage I put together for the fun of it.

We took it on parade laps yesterday at the HPDE. If my life had a highlight reel, pulling up next to an R8 in Truckstiva and revving at him while staring him down would definitely be in there.

Lemons?

$201X challenge?

We thought about Lemons a few times, and it's been suggested to us even more, but that would entail spending money on the car, something we're just not up for.

And no, it's too plain for a Challenge car. We're looking more to keep it as the hazard-to-everyone-around-it that it is right now. Today after we finished working, me and my friend took it to the junkyard at TWS behind Nascar Turn-3 and did some SERIOUS mudding and rally driving. If you've never taken a sub-2K# FWD car mudding, you're missing out on some serious fun. We couldn't get it stuck, it would either just float or spin. Made some epic handbrake turns through the mud. We were barely visible to the corner worker at Turn 8 (there were cars on track for the HPDE), and I'm sure we confused the E36 M3 out of him or her.

Yeah, we kind of are too, but the track proctor loves the car and thinks its hilarious. So long as we don't do anything incredibly stupid, she doesn't care.

That's hilarious. Car-related tomfoolery like this doesn't happen often enough.

We need the Stig to get this car on Top Gear's fast lap board. No matter what criteria you evaluate (mpg, 0 to 60, or miles til next incident), it's too cool to follow with "... in a $20 car."

I work there, and the other guy rents a garage there.

And I think TG is a little out of our league, although I am emailing with Murilee trying to get Truckstiva some coverage on Jalopnik.
