I'm thinking about drinking the kool-aid. I want a street car with a roll bar and maybe a hard top for track days. Aside from CL, eBay, and Miata.net, is there anywhere good that I should expand my search to? I want to avoid the dealer tax, and I'm somewhat interested in getting something that's already seen the business end of a road course.
Me too, I am looking for one. As other have stated to me in the past looking during the summer months is not advised as prices do go up during that season. Pricing also varies from region to region.
clubroadster.net and miataturbo.net both have classifieds but usually have more parts than cars for sale, it is also harder to find local deals.

This was my Craigslist find. They are out there, you just have to keep looking. There's apparently some truth to the "seasonal" Miata shopping. The dealer told me he was only selling the above car at that price because "If I have it at the first of August, I'll still have it at the first of February." Of course, I relieved him of that worry yesterday.
I was looking for a miata for awhile and nothing was showing up in my price range locally. Then I found one two hours away and called the kid immediately. It was the first day he had the car posted. I looked at it the next day and brought every bit of his $2500 asking price. Needless to say, I bought it and I knew if I didnt give him the full price the next was going to pay up. I still watch local miata prices and unless they were driven through winters (rusted and dented to all hell), they sat for 9 months out of the year for the past 20 year and the prices reflected it.
I bought mine in March: '91, 133k miles, long nose 1.6, 5 speed, a/c, manual steering/windows/locks, VLSD, and had a broken drivers door mirror, thrashed top, illegally cracked windshield, bald tires, and has a reconstructed title. I might have over paid, but I am happy after investing $500 and all but the top is fixed. I dont care about the reconstructed title and neither did my insurance company; so what if the passenger door has a different VIN on it

I guess my point is you need to be able to go at the drop of a hat, with cash in hand for the deals to make it to your own garage.
Atlanta Craigslist. It's the only place in the country to even bother looking for any used car. They practically give 'em away down there, and they're usually clean and straight.

Here is one that I just saw for sale. Looks quite a bit overpriced and no mention of rust though.
