As some of you have seen in my build thread I have recently become the keeper of a low mileage 2009 MINI cooper S. This is my first European care, so I'm sure to have many questions along the way.

I've taking care of some little things that need attention (vents, rear hatch latch, key fob), and notice the service light is on. I'm pretty sure it is just that it hasn't been reset during the oil changes, but it would be nice to be able to confirm that's all it is and reset it.

Any recommendations for scanners that have the typical functions needed for maintaining an R56 including trouble shooting, resetting service lights and other diagnostic functions needed for a European vehicle.

I expect I'll need something different/newer than my current Foxwell NT630, but haven't plugged it in to see if I could read anything other than basic OBDII codes and monitor checks.

Let me know what you use that would be compatible and how you like it.

Thanks

Bimmerlink app and bluetooth dongle. They list a number of dongles on their site.

Foxwell NT510 Elite has been pretty decent for the money, i'd say, I bought it to reset cam adaptations on an R56 S. But I age a year every time I change modes on it (OBD-II to BMW) or wait on it to scan protocols.  IDK if it's the tool or the platform, or both.

Bimmerlink, eh? I'll have to have a look at that.

Thanks! It looks like most of the dongles will work, although some seem to be more challenging to get to work than others.

Im thinking I may splurge on the OBDLink MX+  since I didn't see any forum posts about connection issues. Even with the higher cost for the dongle, the total cost (app+dongle) is comparable (or less) than a preloaded scan tool.

Since I get asked to scan code for friend and family having something that seem to be a more solid connection is probably worth a bit extra.
