Working on the naskart. Tearing the rear suspension and axle down to clean and rebuild.
The rear hubs use press in studs that alo have a set screw to retain. Because belt an suspenders....
7 out of 10 set screws are stuck ive tried heat, penetrating oil, and hammer blows for an impact. Its a 1/8 allen, so not a lot of torque available.

Whats the easy/best solution here? Hubs are steel if that changes the answer.
Tried turning them in instead of out?
Are you fighting loctite on the set screws? Is there room for a battery powered impact with an 1/8" hex bit in there?
I'd start with an impact driver. Not the ugaduga type but the whack it with a hammer type like this.

If that didn't work I'd use heat. And, by heat I mean an oxy acetylene torch not propane or MAP gas. Get a vertical line on the hub in line with the set screw glowing red and then use the impact on it.
In the unlikely event that didn't work I'd drill it out with a left hand drill bit.
Battery powered driver with ratcheting. The rapid hammer action of a low torque setting may help loosen them. Vibration will be your friend.

Out.
They were slightly mushroom headed
New will get added to the hardware order.

Excellent. Despite the pictures clearly showing otherwise I was thinking that the studs were still in the way of the problem setscrews.
You don't really need to put those set screws back in. They're only there so the tire changer doesn't knock the studs back out when he slams the wheel on during a sub 14 second pit stop.
In reply to APEowner :
Almost all the studs were off kilter a little, and tapped out fairly easily with small ball peen.
Il probably put the set screws back in, cause i love the belt and suspenders approach.
Put the screws in because without splines on the studs the interference fit isn't tight enough. Just trying to put a wheel on in perfect circumstances you might bump studs out. It's actually more like belt or no belt.
