So I'm relocating to Charleston, SC, this coming summer. I'd like to get involved with a Lemons team in the area before I go into motorsports withdrawl. It seems like 24Lemons is pretty active in that region, with 2 races at Carolina Motorsports Park a year.
What's the best way to find a team and evaluate if it's something I'd like to get in on?
Related- anyone on this board in that area and have/want to do a Lemons team?
Just getting into it myself for the first time, so I'm no expert at all. But I know that both of the series have message boards. They have a "Help Wanted" section for finding teams. Check there.
Paging Toyman01 and Curmudgeon to the courtesy phone . . .
I thought about this as well (since CMP is down the street from me). It's on my list of things to do in the next 3 yrs.

So I'm coming home the other day, and the guy from around the corner is trailering a lemons car! I never knew. Going there tonight to see if he needs any team members!
I know of one other team in Chucktown, they are about a block from Toyman's house and last I heard they needed one more driver for the March 2/3/4 race, in fact I may be a relief driver for their team as well as driving on mine.
I think there are two others down there and it seems there is at least one other team here in Columbia. The Tunachuckers are based out of Tigerville which is kinda northwest of Greenville.
Excellent news. I'll make sure and get in touch with the local GRM'ers once we relocate.

Us Hongers are slamming together the General Tso for the March Lemons race at CMP. You are welcome to hang out and see what it's like to break things you never thought possible...
We have a Facebook page, Hong Norr Racing, if you would like to see the build process. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.357400607609176.106474.167985349884037&type=3&l=ab222ead28

If you can make it to CMP in March, look us up. We'll be up to our usual antics. Should be a hoot to run full course for a change.
Better get there early on Saturday before Jay sees what he hath wrought (or the dope wears off) and cuts us back to the half course.
Go to ChumpCar.com and join the forums. Speak with the local regional director about local teams, show up at events and volunteer, etc.
Chump runs full courses without calamity. I was at Sebring in Sept and there were no cars spontaneously combusting or flying off into the back 40.
The Lemons Court holds their series closer to it's crapcan roots, so it will be interesting to see beaters negotiating the kink. Some will be capable of 120+. Some top out at about 70. Should make traffic interesting.
Best way to find a team is to come to the race and hang around the forum.
I'll be at CMP with Speedycop or Slerms McKenzie. Come on out.

Oh hell yeah!! hoping not to be sick and sleeping in the back of the Volvo t-wagon this time. Myself and Matt were trying to get down there to help and do Daytona 24hrs but could not score buddy pass flights. Cage/car looks great, are you guys signed up?

Yeah, we're all registered. Don't forget to sign up and get all of your ducks walking the line. Let me know if you need anything, Matt has my contact info. We're going to do some serious Honging this week, hoping to do some shaking down sooner than later.

May I continue the threadjack?
It seems you guys have some experience at CMP. What do you think the top speeds will be for an average LeMons car? With our gearing right now, the Malibu will top out around 120 mph. Is this sufficient? Should I put in a different rear?
Thanks!

With our whopping 90 hp we were seeing around 80-85 on the short track. I'd say 120 capability on the long course should be significantly scary.

Three years ago our 351W powered Thunder Terd and a V8 Mustang were doing ~105 at the end of the CMP half course 'long' straight, right before the starter's stand. I'd say most other cars were seeing 75 or so. For the Tinkertoy cars like our Civic, I'm going to say we will probably peak at ~100 MPH on the full course.
The best way - Bring money. There are a lot of teams with cars, wrenches, etc., who can barely afford to put gas in the car (have you seen what 100 gallons of 93 Octane costs?) or get the rig to the race. As much fun as it is to build, IMO the thing that most people need is a bigger checkbook.
