Yesterday when driving a friend to the airport I decided to take the escort as it has functional A/C and it was 106 out. The A/C felt lacking and I had allotted an extra hour of time, as I'm paranoid on prep and planning when driving to an airport (always allowing time in case of accidents and rerouting etc), so I was debating on grabbing a can of freon to top it off. About 300 yards from my stop to get freon, the AC suddenly felt warm and the power steering went out. When I parked...

Tossed the serpentine belt and v belts. Burped up about 8oz of coolant, but over heating. Picked up the replacement belts yesterday and towed it to the shop. Going to tackle it shortly, hoping that there's no seized pulley or bearing. According to the maintenance records those belts were 11 years old, surprising that they weren't done with the timing belt and water pump 4 years and 11k miles ago.

I didn't get the car until last summer. This is the vehicle that was traded for a 4 pack of local craft brew :)
I was floored when I given maintenance records that included tire rotations every 5-7k
On my RN Truck, I have maintenance records and receipts going back 27 years. You should see the look they give you at VatoZone when you pull out a 25 year old receipt for a lifetime warranty replacement.

The farmer across the street replaced a lifetime warranty battery with a receipt from 1978 a few months ago, it’s on his farm truck. I think it’s the 4th or 5th one, the receipt is laminated in the glove box.
Escort GT, sweet! I'm holding out hope of finding a nice Mercury Tracer LTS someday. (sleeper sedan version)
Got the belts on it yesterday afternoon, as soon as the serpentine belt was set it started puking power steering fluid, all over the fresh belt.
Back to square one after resealing the p/s pump. Frustrating weekend.

My co-worker has been trying to sell one that has been fitted with a turbo and AWD conversion. It's an ex-Challenge car with a gutted interior.
