Highway 36 West toward Thomaston, GA. Historic Lamar County Speedway, dedicated kart only paved road race course with elevation changes, built 1959.
Free grandstands, $12 pit pass. SE old guys go crazy fast on hard skinny tires..
Oh man that sounds cool! I REALLY want a vintage go kart!
There was a kid who raced in Hamilton Ont. Around 10 years ago. He had a pretty old Kart not sure what chassis or how old.
The Fuel tank was not plastic, I'm assuming assuming aluminum. He was racing against modern Karts..
Anyways, it was by far the oldest Kart out there. He seemed happy as hell just to be out there racing!
His parent's probably told him this is the Kart we have that is what you will race.
He usually finished mid pack and lower if it was dry.
In the wet it was like the second coming of Senna. That being said, it was like the second coming of Senna in a Toleman at Monaco.
I never saw him win in the wet, but he was always near the top of the field..

Unfortunately, have you priced vintage kart stuff? Oi! An NOS half sphere fuel tank can go for 4 figures. These things are not cheap.
Back in the day Barnesville was the Premier event on the WKA schedule. If you are anywhere near this event it would be a day well spent.

Yeah, it's insane! I'd be ok with a kart that just looks old. I like the vintage style, and I would want one just for tinkering and buzzing around the neighborhood. Someday...
Yard karts. Margay or Bug are the names you want. I raced Margays in the 70's. Started on a Dart with a McCulloch 101B. Scared the M3 E36 out of me.
In reply to Appleseed:
Yup, those last 2 are exactly what I have in mind! Looks like loads of fun!
Too bad you aren't in the Chicago area. My buddies, Joe And Kansas put on the "White Knuckle Scramble" last year. Super fun. Here's me wrenching on the "$300 Special."
Here's a linky to pics on the HAMB.

That thing is SWEET! Any chance you have a "build thread" for it or some details on the specs? For $300 it looks awesome!
Sorry no build thread. I bought it like that. I didn't really do a good preflight. Which is probably why the clutch and chain went flying by my head. Derp.
