Welding in the middle of a big panel like that is a ticket to warping and misery.
Part restoration project, part performance art.
Project Binky is the Waiting For Godot of the car world. Godot never arrives, Binky is never gets done...but of course that's not the point.
"Tertiary bracket"
Binky is actually making good progress, but there's a lot to do. This whole thing will have to be disassembled for paint and I'm assuming that engine is going to get a fancy pants rebuild. I'm curious about what the interior trim might look like. It's become a far more modern car than I anticipated.
I thought it was funny, seeing the name Jim Hodgson and hearing the voice I thought it was just a coincidence, then I saw the tag for Crossthreaded. Jim is a Lemons racer from the SE who was a pilot with Our Lady of Perpetual Downforce. Small world. Awesome to see his work on Binky!
I felt that it was moving along rather quickly this episode. Yes, it still requires the heartbreaking disassembly and paint stage, but that stuff is routine and should not require the endless hours of innovating and iterating that has been the project so far.
If the body is to be farmed out, it can go pretty fast (caveat: we all know about paint jail). The engine will go quickly if it is not already sitting in another room. I want to think that they are not going to rip out all the wires that were so painstakingly installed. So whats left that will be a challenge?

In reply to NOHOME :
In an earlier episode Richard mentions they will be removing all the wiring before it gets painted. I suspect they will use better cable ties when the wiring goes back in after paint.
As usual, 23 was an awesome episode.
In reply to Keith Tanner :
IIRC that engine isn't the engine, it's an empty block/head that they picked up for mockup.

Where the heck are they going to put a turbo, let alone a manifold, turbo, and heat exchanger?
Over the trans would have been great but some bellend has decided to put the aircon and alternator there.
In reply to Knurled. :
Cant see an issue with the Turbo. Failing that, the passenger can hold it out the window on a stick.

Good, because it sure looks gross. They're definitely focusing on the interior accoutrements instead of the greasy bits these days.
Last folks I expected to use those evil fan mount zip ties. Those cost me a radiator once, and I'll never use them again.

I'd be willing to place a wager that episode 24 will involve proper fan mounting. No way that makes the final cut.
Assuming they can move the fan back far enough to mount it to the tanks instead of the core. At least there’s no AC. I don’t remember anything about an intercooler, though. That’s going to affect radiator airflow.

Watching a documentary about the 2006 Subaru WRT, Prodrive zip tie a fan like that straight to the radiator as well, on a 400,000 euro car!

They have a/c! Remember when they made that compressor mount... and had to modify an evaporator core to work in the tight confines?
They are running a water/air intercooler with a heat exchanger mounted ahead of the water radiator, and an condenser in front of that.
