I finally got the Corvette back from the shop - a job to fix the transmission leaks bloomed into having to find an NOS intake - so I wanted to sort out the last remaining important job that I was aware of, changing the washer bottle. It smelled a little ripe when I dropped the car off at the shop and it turned out a rat had got into the tank over the winter (the neck is damaged and the lid doesn't close properly). Shop flushed out the rat, but it still smelled when I got the car back.

I had a replacement bottle already so I dug into the car, pulled out the bottle and disposed of its contents down the toilet. Which produced a second drowned rat. Bleurgh.

Of course, after flushing the evidence it turned out that the new bottle is the later C4 style and doesn't fit the car. Time to find the correct tank...

At this rate the car will be back on the road in time for putting it up again for winter...

I had a similar experience but it was a field mouse and it shocked the hell out of me in front of relatives.

Klaus: Wha's for afters?

Mother: Rat cake, rat sorbet, rat pudding, or strawberry tart.

Klaus: (eyes lighting up) Strawberry tart?

Mother: Well, it's got some rat in it.

Klaus: 'Ow much?

Mother: Three. A lot, really.

Klaus: Well, I'll have a slice without so much rat in it.

Voice over: One slice of strawberry tart without so much rat in it later:

Klaus: (putting down fork and knife) Appalling.
