Currently contemplating my next track car and i thought i would keep the manufacturer aligned with my DDs( 335i / 328i), I understand the consumables will be a lot more expensive but wondering if its reliable enough for extended track day duty? Heard about some rod bearing issues but want to know if anything else comes to mind with experience. DCT or no?

Personally, I'd rather daily an E90 M3 and buy a beater E36/E46 that's already set up for track work.

What the guy above me said. You will save money on consumables too.

Love my E36 M3 as my track car. E90 M3 is very nice and fast but you'll spend a lot setting it up for the track and that'll kinda destroy how nice it is as a DD.

I really want it for the high reving V8 thingy. As a DD the E90 M3 gets 14mpg city? I DD straight six BMWs and race an Acura Integra ( SCCA Improved touring S). I want something a little more exotic (without the exotic price) to wake my middle aged ass up.

14 mpg means you'll spend an extra $600 on fuel a year, maybe? You'll be paying more than that in tires each year if you make it a track car.

If you really want something exotic to take on track get an Elise or Exige. They're similar money, consumables and engines are cheap, and they're not depreciating.

Since you're doing track days, go with which one is more fun between the DCT and a 6-speed, not necessarily which is faster. I think the other concern is crashing an E90 M3 would be more expensive than crashing a regular E36/46/90.
