I never ended up following drag racing that deeply, but his was a name burned into my impressionable brain as a kid, when the only thing I wanted to read was Hot Rod.

I had a chance to talk with Mr. Glidden at the US Nationals in the mid 90’s.  I will always remember him as being a supremely accommodating guy!

If anyone could make me want a Ford, it was Glidden. That guy was the man to beat for a long, long , time.

I took a picture with him at the Gatornationals back in 2007, he couldn't have been more gracious.  Great guy and a hellavua racer.  Can't upload photo, working on it.

My dad quit following drag racing when he read that Glidden had spent $10,000 on valve springs during one year in the '80's.  He said that was nuts, not for him, and he refused to show any interest from there going forward.  My father is funny that way.
