Well thank you Ovoid and Phlegm, or Dick Johnson, for confirming what I suspected. Gentlemen of the thread, you're being played for damn fools. Enough nonsense. Enjoy the thread.

Part of me is still convinced it really is Jeanes, and that he's now playing a caricature of himself on this thread just for the sake of agitating Gary. That sounds like something one of the founders of Bolus and Snopes would do. Either way, I'm still curious. It's one of those "Wait and see" things.

I have been doing my research...

I fear that I may have unintentionally insulted you with the the beer that I offered to you earlier. Instead, Martinis making special note of the use of the plural version!

Will any of "The True Friends of Hernando De Soto" be attending The Challenge as well?

In reply to JohnRW1621:

No insult taken by me. And I'm sure your offer of a beer would not offend Mr. Jeanes but that is idle speculation on my part. Perhaps martinis would also be appropos in honor of Sam's passing since B&S was conceived over that beverage in his backyard.

Don't know if the friends of DeSoto will be up for the trek from up north. Perhaps you could be their proxy since you reside above the Mason-Dixon line.

While sitting around jawboning about the past is entertaing, the future is NOW, dear followers, and at this juncture I prefer to discuss the journey of our Challenge entry.

Ovid, IV, Esq., pursued the class action lawsuit on behalf of the IHOP 15. Not to belabor you with jurisprudential minutiae, but in a nutshell that litigation was dismissed with prejudice on motion for Summary Judgment by counsel opposite on the theory of force majuere or "acts of God." Not unanticipated, the loss was a setback for Ovid, IV, ESQ., but as they say in Mississippi, "live by the sword, die by the sword."

The agony of defeat was tempered by the fact that Ovid, IV, ESQ., could now devote his undivided attention to solving the riddle of the Yazoo Valley clay covered vehicle on blocks in his front yard. Neighbors had been patient, but now the fading blue Harbor Freight tarp was weathered and taking on the hue of a 10 y.o. North Carolina basketball jersey that had seen too many spin cycles.

The soil samples had returned from the geological forensics lab at that cow bell college in Starkville, Mississippi State, and produced more questions than answers. The cored samples revealed the outer mantel was indeed Yazoo Valley clay as suspected. However, strata closer to the vehicle body work revealed soil and organic material only indigenous to northern Tennessee and south central Kentucky. Strange indeed.

Ovid, IV, ESQ. was now taking on the role of automotive archaeologist, a role that even his legal training might prove to be insufficient.

This. I don't care if it's a bunch of dogs typing. They're welcome here, and super welcome at the Challenge (esp. if they are actually car-racing dogs). This promises to be a fun team.

It's the command of English punctuation that really tipped my scales to believe. It is rare trait around here especially with our chatter style of conversation.
Personal, I find myself intimidated and over scrutinizing my own writing in this thread.

I anticipate that the word whom will be used correctly before this thread is over, ha.

Thank you for the personal welcome. I presume you are related to Tim? I'm new to forum but FWIW I've been a follower of GRM since it was what, Autocross action magazine? Guess that'll make me eligible for the Old Guys class by default?

Thanks again. All about chits and giggles. But do let me know if our somewhat irreverent team gets outta bounds.

Yeah, I'm related to Tim. Or he's related to me. Something like that. And let's not talk about how old one has to be to date back to the Auto-X Magazine days....

Sounds like you guys will fit in just fine.

Of whom do you speak? Certainly not the Gatekeeper. He appears quite erudite...saw in one thread where he used the term "malady." Seems to be a bright if not anxious fellow, bless his heart.

How are we being played for 'damn fools'? Is the OP trying to sell us something that I'm not aware of?

Ahhh...let's not be harsh towards the Gatekeeper. Oftentimes in today's avaricious society the cynic is the last protection for the masses when our government fails us.

But that does raise an interesting Challenge accounting question: if our team offers for sale zip lock bags of dirt removed from this automotive artifact, can we use it to recoup our initial purchase price? Of course, we would include notarized certificates attesting to its authenticity. Just curious.

If you sell the clean floor mats, that can be used to offset purchase.

If you sell the dirty floor mats, that can be used to offset purchase.

If you just sell the dirt in the floor mats, that too can be used to offset purchase.

Thanks. I'm more interested in the parking lot festivities than the cars.

As rookies to this event TEAM B&S wants to contribute to those festivities in some way. Help our fellow competitors. Perhaps set up an open martini bar.

If I may jump in here, I think this Link is where the discussion about this years "parking lot build" is taking shape. Martini's and beer are always welcomed

I remember one year, may have been about 2012, someone flew into Florida and bought a car (a Supra I believe) just days before the event then sold the car the day after the event and flew home.
This spurred the magazine to create an award for "Last Minute Challenger." This is special award for cars bought within the week(s) before the event.

Just last year, someone flew in and bought a Alfa Spyder just days before and a Tampa resident brought in a retired Ford Cop Car he had bought days before.

This award spun up an unlikely offshoot though the minds of Andrew (Willrunifchased) and Jeremy (pimpm3) to the idea of purchasing an already caged Fiero and then to not begin work until the day before the event. This was the birth of the "parking lot build" chronicled here: Fiero

The following year, the group project was a Lincoln Mark 8 purchased after pre-registration had closed.
Lincoln Mark 8

The Ghettocet is this years brainchild brought to you by the same group; a group lead by Jeremy (pimpm3). Ghettocet
